Heart Palpitations only at night

by carolinabball, Sep 22, 2008 10:59PM
I am a 21 y/o female.  I had heart palpitations back when I was 18, was referred to an endocrinologist, and was told that I possibly had a transient thyroid problem (I don't remember if it was hypo/hyper).  For the past week I have experienced palpitations starting a couple hours after dinner that get worse (more frequent) throughout the night until I fall asleep.  When I wake up in the morning, they appear to have gone away.  I have not changed my caffeine intake/diet/stress level/etc.  Any thoughts on if this is related to my thyroid?

That has happened to me hundreds of times in the past 31 years.  I have no thyroid problem and have been checked repeatedly (even though I have all THOSE symptoms, too.)  Night time is a great time for PVCs.  I used to have them so bad at night that I got used to them and they started to lull me to sleep!  That is when they stopped, of course.  I still will get some when I lie down.  Usually, I just have to arch my back for a bit or lay on my right side instead of my back or left side.  Sometimes it is positional.  Maybe you are more tired lately after dinner or overeating????  Just a thought.
