Something strangely wrong with my nose

by Rest, Sep 23, 2008 04:49AM
Recently after a nasty flue I lost the sence of smell and taste. The GP prescribed another dosage of antibiotics for synusitis. My nose is clear, my sence of taste returned probably fully, but I still have problems with the sense of smell. I can smell perfume, soap, and similar but cannot smell anything that smells bad, i.e my dog, out of date meat, etc. My GP suggested an MRI, and today called me explaining that there is nothing to worry about, but that I have some bone missing higher up in my nose. He said that this is called empty spots syndrom or similar. Also, my GP mentioned something like pituilary gland, not so sure what he meant to explain. Also, he said that my synuses are fine, but there is some mild inflamation and some skin around the synus. He said that I could have headachnes, but I do not. Said not to worry, and to see him in a month. Well, not sure what to make out of it. I want to know if the sense of smell will return. I now rememebered that when I had some dental inplants, the Dr who performed the procedure said to me that he inplanted one up to my synus. I always felt a bit different in this area, but not too bad. The inplant did not last anyway. The hole drilled for this implent would this be the empty spot? . What could be wrong? At times I can smell better, sometimes less. My nose became sensitive to an open fridge door. I am not in pain, but it worries me.I also have some burning sensation higher up my nose. What does it all mean?
