red swollen throat with white dots

Hello experts,
I started feeling last week. This past Friday I had a sore swollen throat with white dots in the back. I took echinacea and cold medicine and the white dots cleared up but my throat is still extremely sore, red and swollen. In addition my neck is stiff and my lymph nodes are swollen and tender. I had no fever the whole time, no mucus, nothing. just the sore throat. Is it just a cold or could it be strep? Can you even have strep throat without a fever? Thanks
