Possible Trigeminal Neuralgia

by eyesrsore, Sep 23, 2008 11:19PM
Since Lasik surgery 9 years ago, I have had a pain in my left eye and the surrounding orbit.  It is also just above the eyebrow, and rarely comes below the eye.  The surgeon had problems with the lasik flap on my left eye and my eyes have been dry since the surgery.  The only answer I get from the lasik surgeon is "it's from dry eye."  Well, that doesn't help me.  I still see him because I need constant eye care and since he knows my case so well, I don't have to repeat things.   In addition, 5 years out from the lasik, I had cataract surgery in this eye because my vision was becoming dim from a cataract.  The surgeon's calculation for the iol was off by 4 diopters and I'm stuck with anisometriopia.

In addition, two years ago I was diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome which made some sense at this point.  The doctor never checked me for dry eyes prior to the lasik.  I'm not trying to fix blame for the pain issue.  I can't seem to find anyone to put a name on it, and so it's hard to seek treatment in a small mid-west town.  I am sure it's trigeminal neuralgia after all this time reading about it.  I am at the point where it is destroying my life and I'm ready to seek surgery or whatever.  I live in Michigan and see we have the gamma knife at Mid-Michigan Neurology.  I take several drugs to help with the pain, but it's never gone entirely. I'm willing to travel to seek treatment.   Lucy

Thank you for replying.  I did go to you tube and looked up TN.  It helped with info.
I am going to make an appt with a local neuro-surgeon and run all this by him.  He should at least be familiar with TN and have some suggestions.  Lucy

I have the nerve damage in my right eye from sinus surgery. They nicked a nerve. My life is not quality but I sitll can get by. I have a good Dr. I do take various perscriptions, but I can function and keep working. I depression at times gets very challenging. For me the pain in my eye is like someone has squeezed my eye in a vise and then keeps stabbing it with a hot ice pick.I have had this for  5 years and I am told this is as good as it gets. I would like to believe it would get better. I have seen surgeons which will not recommnend surgery. I have under developed sinus cavaties and chances are far greater to occur again. I am very empathetic to your suffering. Please feel free to chat sometime. I wish you well.
