back pain with cysts?!?!

The dr. told me back in April that I have a possible dermoid cyst. No money, no insurance, so I just cannot get it removed so I just deal with it. I deal with alot of pelvic pain and have horrible periods. But right now and for the last three days my back has been killing me. Is it b/c of the cyst? I usually don't have this severe pain in my back. Usually, when it acts up, I have back pain, just not this bad. It even hurts when I cough, which is alot b/c unfortunately I am a smoker. Does anyone else experience severe back pain? It is like something is pinched back there!

I know with my cyst I had pain down my leg and around my back. It became so bad that I couldn't walk and had to go into my doctors office (this happened one week ago) and she admitted me and did the surgery that night. If you click on the Health Pages link to the top right of this discussion with the orange logo and then click on the types of ovarian cyst page it will give you all of the types of cysts as well as the symptoms.

My personal experience is you should be asking your doctor about hormonal treatment as a possibility? Also have you had any ultrasounds (transvaginal) because otherwise there isn't a sure way to tell what type of cyst it is. And even then my doctor thought it was one type of cyst and then when she got in there with the camera changed her mind and said we have to wait until it is actually tested! So good luck with your cyst and if those pain pills don't work perhaps ask for a different type. Good luck! Tanja

Yes if probably is your cyst.  I too have a cyst some days it barely bothers me at all, others it is painful to walk or sleep.  Please don't delay treatment.  I realize you don't have insurance but most doctors and outpatient centers will put you on some sort of a payrment plan, some even offer financial aid in the form of a reduced price for those without insurance or a limited income.  Again, the above email is correct, you cannot tell what kind of cyst it is just from an ultrasound.  There is always the risk a cyst could burst, and then you would almost for sure end up in the hospital.

Yes, I had a transvaginal ultrasound, a CT scan, X-rays..... at the ER. The doc said possible dermoid. How would I know if a cyst has burst? I guess it would be very painful. I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, when I wiped it was bloody. I thought it was my period but I have not bled since. It is just weird, I feel like there is something going on inside me, hard to explain. If a cyst burst does it leak out of you or inside your body?

It is not uncommon to have spotting in between period with ovarian cysts.  I too have had that happen.  A cysts burst into your blood stream and it is extremely painful and life threatening.  It can release all sorts of bacteria and toxins into your system.  I actually know two people that this happened to them and both ended up in the hospital for almost a week.  You need to see a gynecologist, the cyst will probably not go away without some sort of therapy or removal.  Dealing with this early will save you needless pain and worry.

Yes the back pain is from the cyst.  Please find a way to get this dealt with.  Over 95% of cysts are benign but you can't play with your health.  They can't tell for sure that it is benign until you have it removed and pathology tested.

Thank you for giving me some insight into what is going on inside my body. I do realize I need to have this taken care, it is hard  though. Thanks Ladies!
