Does this sound like TMJ?

by ahirs, Apr 23, 2007 12:00AM
For well over a month now, I have experienced dizziness, headaches (usually in the temple area over the eyes and at the back of the head or behind the ears), occassional earaches and jaw aches, and trouble focusing my vision.  I have been to a neurologist and had a brain MRI, which did not reveal anything wrong.  I have also had blood work done and there is nothing unusual.

I am going through a very stressful time right now, and in the past, I have grinded my teeth during stressful periods, although I've never had anything like these symptoms.  Does this sound like it could be TMJ or worth checking out with a dental expert?

Are there any methods of self-diagnosis for TMJ, or things you can do to alleviate TMJ-related pain at home?  Thanks very much!

I had a similar problem as you.  I had a lot of dental work done which caused my bit to be off, in exchange cause a whole mess of problems including TMJ.  I went to my dentist and had him fix my bit as well as went out and bought a sports mouth guard to where at night to see if was me grinding my teeth turned out it was.  Also dentist told me that if you are aware try to keep you lips from touching and that will help with TMJ symptoms.  I also did the vowels with my mouth to loosen up the muscles, by pronouning really big AEIOU.  It works.

also I forgot to mention, if you have any metal allergies to nickel or copper.  They use that in fillings which alot people don't think to mention to there dentist but it will also cause a lot problems.  So you should just the porcelian fillings.
