Hi

There can be various causes for iching in thighs such as irritant rash, scabies, eczema, lichen planus, psoriasis, fungal infection (tinea), erythema multiforme, dyshidrotic dermatitis, etc.

The most common cause is tinea, a group of skin infections caused by fungus dermatophytes. These fungi can infect any part of the skin, hair and nails. Tinea grows usually on warm moist skin such as skin between the toes, groin area, underarms, below the breasts.

It is a common problem and you should not worry. You may try an over-the-counter antifungal cream like 1% clotrimazole. You should wear loose-fitting cotton clothing, maintain a good personal hygiene and avoid using any cosmetic products. You may try calamine lotion locally which has a soothing effect.

You should consult a dermatologist who may prescribe you some topical/ oral  anti-fungal medication or steroid cream. Sometimes a skin biopsy may be done to help confirm the diagnosis.

Take care!

Hello,

There are a few possibilities for this kind of itching. It can be a fungal infection(Tinea cruris) or a contact or irritant ( xerotic) dermatitis.

Wash your inner thighs daily and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. The damp groin and thigh is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwears and do not share other people’s towels.

Mostly such itching responds to over-the-counter products, which contain any of several basic ingredients: miconazole, tolnaftate, terbinafine, and clotrimazole. In contact dermatitis, benadryl or Claritin may be useful.Apply calamine lotion to soothe the skin.

If there is no respite then I feel that you should consult a dermatologist and get yourself assessed so that specific treatment(antifungals or corticosteroids) can be started.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you had any other queries.
