8 year old boy wants to be a girl

Is it considered "normal" behavior for an 8 year old boy to wish that he was a girl--he talks about wanting to look pretty like a girl--he doesn't show interests in boys-or hanging out with boys at school. he hasn't connected with any boys either--he has a 12 year old brother who's athletic and smart---

I've read of other "disturbed" children doing similar things. And some boys are so frustrated and confused about gender differences that they are just trying to learn and understand more about the mysteries of gender differences, so this is their method of investigating it. A big concern is when a boy tries to make himself into a girl. Some boys have tried cutting off their boy parts and shocked their parents into an awarness of the confusion he was in.

Do you think it is normal? Society has us all wondering these days- doesn't it- believe me it is not "normal" although these days it seems as if anything that feels good/IS GOOD- don't buy into it! Just my 2cents
