HPV I need some answers...

So I have lots of questions about this.

First I would like to know if people can be tested for HPV, do they test in the regular STD screening or do you have to ask specifically? I was tested for STDs and they came up negative, but I don't recall seeing HPV tested for.

Can men really not be tested?

Also, I've had pain down there for about 4 months, it's been sub-siding a little, but I was wondering, could this be a sign of the cancerous strain of HPV since I have no warts? I have pain on the outside of my vagina and sometimes it is red and rough looking, wondering if it is pre-cancerous. The reason I ask is that some people think that HPV could be an underlying cause of vulvodynea, which is almost constant pain of the vulva and outer labia. I have not been diagnosised with vulvodynea but I am in pain almost constantly and I'm scraping for answers.

I've been to 2 doctors and been tested after 3 months from possible exposure and all tests have been negative including herpes. I'm about to see a specialist and perhaps get a biopsy....is anyone familiar with my situation or can help me with my HPV questions? I would appreciate the help, thank you.

*im sorry correction, i meant to say that if you have an hpv infection, both the pap, and hpv test will detect it....im not so sure if they actually detect the actual cancer...you should talk to your doctor, and find out from him/her which would be the most effective way to find out if you have developed cancer....it def sounds like a cronic yeast infection though...are you on any antibiotics?? taking antibiotics can cause yeast infections.....

What you are describing, sounds to me, like a yeast infection...i think you should definitely go to your gyn and get a papsmear, and an hpv test, just to be sure...if its cancer then both of those tests will detect it...but it really sounds like you might just have a yeast infection though...yeast infections make your vagina itch and hurt, and you kind of get this unclean feeling, and alot of discharge...they can also make it burn too, but mostly its a sour feeling....

Pap smear is not a test for HPV but it screens for cell abnormalities caused by the virus on female cervix... the test available "digene", which is HPV DNA test is only available for women... There is no currently FDA approved HPV test available for men... In male HPV warts are recognized visually by dermatologist or a doctor... even if some woman has a high risk strain wouldn't know without a pap test... further, almost all infections caused by hpv are resolved by your body within a period of 6 months to two years but it depends on the health and immune system status of your body... If your body is unable to get your cell abnormalities fixed and they remain, it would take over 10-15 years to turn into cancer... this all can be medically well treated and you should keep a strong followup with your doctor... the symptoms outside are not indicative of any high risk strain...

Also...can HPV testing only be done with a Pap Smear or is there a blood test as well?
