Hello,

As I have told you earlier that cardiac diseases can lead to akle edema, hence pls get your cardiac status checked from your doctor next time.

Other causes of ankle edema are gout, ankle arthritis, impairment of the blood flow to the ankles due to some blood clot, varicose veins etc. Also remember that eating a poor diet high in salt and carbohydrates , abusing laxatives, diuretics, taking birth control or hormone replacement therapy pills, pregnancy and PMS,kidney or liver pathologies, sodium retention and neuromuscular disorders can also cause such ankle edema.

To prevent this ,restrict sodium intake in your diet, avoid prolonged standing, keep your legs elevated while sleeping and wear support socks or stockings. Also drink plenty of water.

I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.

Hi,

Since you’re suffering from anemia and are on iron pills, it’s quite obvious that some/all of your breathlessness could be attributed to anemia. However, people who have long standing anemia may suffer from cardiac problems adding to the breathlessness. I would suggest you to seek the opinion of a physician and get a cardiac check up including an ECG and an x-ray chest as you might be having a chronic heart failure in view of the anemia. Do you also have any swelling of the feet? This is a sign of the chronic heart failure.

I hope that helps and please do keep me posted.

Warm regards.
