Abnormal mammogram

I am 54 y/o, just had my first mammogram and have rec'd certified letter from hosp. stating I need to contact my MD regarding the need for additional testing, what would they be looking for?  The tech who performed x-rays said she did see some "thickening" but otherwise unremarkable....

This discussion is related to Question on what was found on mammogram.

I don't really see any question in your post but I will say that you are wise to have this problem ck.d out. If you have any questions following your mammo and the results don't hesitate to come back; we will try to answer any concerns that you might have.  May I suggest that you post a question as a "new quesion" rather than as a comment to someone else's post as we don't often re-read these comments. The original post where you commented was from Oct. of last year.    Regards ....

Hi there.

There are some additional views that can be done regarding the mammogram test and this would usually require the 'cone down' view where the compression is done from the nipple towards the chest wall.  This is employed if the usual mammogram views have equivocal results.

Also, other tests such as that of ultrasound may also be used if your doctor would deem it necessary.

For now, I believe it is early to jump into any conclusions.

Regards and God bless.
