Does anyone have any good sythroid stories?

I just started taking synthroid a week ago and I am pretty much petrified by all the negative things I have read! Everyone seems to be gaining weight and miserable which seems to be the opposite of what its supposed to do! Has anyone had any success with synthroid?  I was originally happy to finally be prescribed something to help with my hypothyroidism and hashi's, now I am not so sure. SO anyone have any good stories? anyone?

:)

Well so far I'm not sure what I feel yet. The only thing i will say is that I have been alot more moody, snapping at my boyfriend and crying over things I usually wouldn't cry about, that type of stuff....I'm usually pretty even keeled and laid back so its weird for me to get super emotional. I had one day where I felt kind of speedy but i haven't felt like that again since. I actually think I have a pretty high dose to start with, 75 mcg. I only had half my thyroid removed so apparently the half left is still functioning, just not enough. I know i have to be patient. its just soooo hard! thank you for sharing and good luck:)L

So far going on my third week. Brain fog has lifted some. Some energy Just remember it takes time to find your optimal dose. You unfortunately will have a long way to go. They start you off on lower doseage. It will take a full six weeks to be in your system, and then you will have the levels checked. Keep track of your symptoms. Don't let them tell you your in normal range, which they love to do and close the door. Its a fight for us to feel better:)

Hello miss!
I've been trying to get my life in order! I felt better at first after my surgery and then slowly got even more tired and poopy than I was before. So basically I demanded to speak with my doctor about my tests which were at first deemed to be "within normal range" until i looked at my tests before the surgery and saw that my TSH had doubled. Once I pointed this out, my doctor changed his mind immediately!  He then said ok wait six weeks and test your blood again(originally they said i was fine- come back in 3 months!). So i got tested again and TSH had doubled again! SOOOO i finally got put on synthroid last week. It ***** how they let you get worse before they help you get better! Anyway, its been a week on the synthroid and all i read is how awful it is! Thank you so much for telling me about your friends! It gives me some hope. I haven't gained weight since the surgery, but i did gain alot over the course of this year before i knew what was wrong with me. It would be nice to get back to normal. The weight the exhaustion are just the worst. If i sleep any more I am going to go into a coma. hahaha And you are so right about people not posting because they are ok. I kinda did it myself now that I think about it! I will try to make a point of keeping up with posting my progress. I know it helps me to read other peoples stories, so i will try to share mine.  Be well:) L

Immediately after starting on Synthroid, I dropped 25 lbs. without doing anything differently.  That was 8 months ago.  Since then, I've maintained my weight, something I was never able to do in my life for even a month, let alone 8.  All of my hypo symptoms are gone, and I feel great.  They tell me I'm sick, sick, sick, but I feel fine.  My lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, drowsiness, ankle swelling, intolerance to cold (just to name a few!)...all gone.  However, my labs still look like I should have raging hypo symptoms, so my PCP keeps wanting me to increase dose, which has its side effects for me.

However, the Synthroid did exactly what it was supposed to do for me.

Hey, Lady!

I was wondering what happened to you.  Good stories on Synthroid?  My Sis-In-Law, my friend Carrie and Cathy - all three on Synthroid, all weigh the same they did in High School (I could kill them - I'm the one with HYPER, they are HYPO now and still sticks), and NONE of them are miserable!  They take the Synthroid and forget it.  The thing is (as I have learned), you read only the horror stories because the people who don't have any (or mild) problems are not on here talking about it!  I promise, if my HYPER gets better (and I know that it is), I will continue to post in the positive!!!

Good luck!

Hugs,
Shari

My weight has not really changed in 2 years on synthroid. It drops a bit when I do the LID, but then goes back eventually.
