Red inflammed peeling stiff hands and soles of feet six weeks now

by blonde07, Apr 08, 2007 12:00AM
I had surgery 12/4 and on 12/28 had an allergic reaction to ultram.  I broke out in a slight itchy rash, took benadryl, however noticed a "herald" patch on my right back shoulder.  Then smaller flat/scaley nonitching patches continued to appear over the next 8 weeks.  These patches moved from back, to sides, stomach, underarm, top of thighs, back of neck, inside forearm and slightly on calf(one/two spots only) then all was gone.  Two week after this supposed diagnosis of potarysis roscea, I have fingers and soles of feet that feel stretched so tight they will split accompanied with severe peeling, burning sensation, inflammation in color and touch.  I have been to 3 dermatologists without a diagnosis.  I have had blood work for CBC, Platelets, Scleroderma Profile,Antihistone Atibodies, AntiCentromete B Antibodies and Rh factor and all aspects have been good.  My platelette count is 84ish.  Not unusual for me.  The medication has been clebatosole steriod cream, tarazone (plague psorarsis/acne) and now predisone taper.  None of these have provided any relief.  My choices are a skin biopsy and/or the rheumatologist. With the predisone meds I feel really really foggy/drowsy and now my neck looks like I have been sunburned. HELP!  Desperate! Does anyone relate to my symptoms?

I have red palms/fingers and soles of my feet, With alot of orange peel happening.
My doctors 1st thought it  was cellulitis . (bacterial infection under my skin)
I have been on 8 rounds of antibiotics since June-I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia in Feb.07. I also had surgery on 8/27/07 For Carpal tunnel sys. and I Had reaction to stitches . A specialist in infection ordered a radioactive scan & a sample of a break out in my ear. Both were negative. 12/26/07. Now, I am getting worse the redness is spreading The pain in my bones/joints  is spreading and I am seeing a rheumatologist  tomorrow
(I have seen him 3 times already, but, I do not have arthritis)
so, Blonde07 I can relate to you situation.I do not go in the sun, But I look like I do.
Please keep in touch and I will with you-Good luck you are in my prayers

I take 1,000mg antibiotics for a lung infection (which has been ocurring regularly of late).  Within two days of beginning these antibiotics by my index finger and thumb on both hands begin to get red and swell up.  The burning, redness and swelling continues and as the fingers get bigger I loose feeling on the surface of the skin in that area.  After about four days of this the skin breaks open and about 4 or 5 layers peel off at once leaving a red tender skin that takes a couple of weeks to toughen up.  I have only had this when I have been on the strong doses of antibiotics (about 4 times over the past 12 months).
Hope this helps

I too had all this start after ultram reaction. I now test postive and had the rash and skin peeling/eating off of my hands and feet. Strange. I did a round of Cipro for a UTI and it cleared it up for a bit, and I felt better, no more vomiting, swelling joints, nausea, constipaption, diareah, now I have thrush that comes back after each treatment off os AB's.
I too have to go to the RA for a "make sure" diagnosis" even thought blood was positivie for all this mess.
I'd go RA because the can then provide treatment and make sure there's no organ involvement and proper treatment if there is already.

Best to you.
