I'm really not us that I can keep living like this. I also had a very bad experance with Zolft was coming out of my sink. Now I'm on lexapro and have not had any side effects to that but I don't think it's helping.
I don't take anything for the depression...as it was a horror story for me. I learned the hard way to deal with it a different way. I had a HUGE allergic reaction to a particular type of one. That was not fun! I try to do things that won't trigger the depression, not easy always a challenge, and difficult when I get tired and have to think straight.
I am on 100 mcgs of Oroxine..which is a generic thyroxine. It's like Synthroid in USA.
so your not taking anything for depression and are you feeling better? What are you on for thyroid meds?
Yeah, welcome to the "I feel like a baby's diaper full of proverbial!" Families are really of not much support, unless they too have been through a thyroid disorder.
Do get your Vit D levels checked, I read an article awhile back about low Vit D and depression...believe me, I was the QUEEN of depression and not a single anti-depressant worked. (made me worse actually) Til lfinally this year I kicked bottoms and got my levels checked...super low...now on a reasonable dose and feel much better..most of the time..LOL...
I saw a Naturopath and he was wonderful...nearly beat me black and blue with the deep tissue massages but his overall ideas of my diet and drinking ginger tea worked wonders on me...now just got to figure out why I am feeling so exhausted whilst I am hyper..go figure!
I had my adrenals tested today, basic cortisol and ACTH test so hopefully that will show up something....this too I have had to fight for but only we know our bodies best and by fighting to be better, may be tiring in itself, sometime it really pays to do so.
My depression I get now is related to being too tired...that's my trigger...over tiredness...so I have learnt that it's ok and have a good old cry and feel like spoilt brat that everyone is ignoring, but I also know that not pushing myself too hard daily can help. Doesn't solve everything, but knowing your own limits is a good selfhelp.
Cheers!
Thank you I had the fact that I might have to take something for the rest of my life for depression. I had a hard enough time with taking a thyroid pill. You can check out my tracker for my most resent blood work. My endo did send me a lab slip but I really want to wait till I go and talk to her because she only ordered T3 total T4 Free and TSH and I really want her to check for Vitamin dif and my adrenals. And I want my T3 Free done that's not even on the lab slip. Also anti bodies which I have not had tested in five years. I forgot to say I'm going for an Eco Wed of my heart because I have been having chest pains.
Depression and hypothyroidism often have the same symptoms - and you can have both at the same time. Fun, eh?
Have you had your labs run lately? I would guess you are hypo based on your symptoms (especially feeling cold) but the only way to know for sure would be to run your labs. Call your endo and ask him/her to order your labs *now* so you can discuss them at your next appointment (and so you can post them here beforehand so we can help give you a few things to talk to the endo about).
Sometimes when the thyroid is off it can make depression worse and you may need a different, or higher strength, of an antidepressant. Many (probably most) of us on this forum have been on antidepressants or still are. Nothing wrong with that - it's not a weakness to admit that your neurotransmitters are messed up and need to be adjusted.
As for the T3/T4 - *ask (or tell) for it*! The only way that we can get what we need for our individual bodies is to be our biggest advocates. Too many people don't ask their doctors questions, research their conditions, or discuss their health with their doctors. They just go to the doctor, describe symptoms, and fill prescriptions. This is your body, your health, and your mental health you are dealing with so make sure that you communicate very clearly what you need. If your endo doesn't want to add T3 ask why. You and your doctor(s) are a team in your healthcare. Talk to your endo about the depression too - endos deal with this just as much as any other doctor.
A nutritionist is a great start - so is getting proper rest.
Hang in there - it does get better but it's an ongoing battle.
