What were your thyoid levels?  If you have them, please post thyroid tests run and the results, along with ranges.  Have your levels been tested again since your diagnosis to see what your current levels are ?

Just being started on thyroid med does not guarantee automatic weight loss.  I learned that one the hard way!!!

I was diagnosed hypothyroid approx 6 months ago also and just about 2 weeks ago with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.  I gained about 30 pounds before the hypo t diagnosis and have not been able to get it off yet either.  I was started out on 100 mcg synthroid, then dropped to 88 mcg and currently on 75 mcg.

Do you have any other medical conditions that might cause you to hang on to excess weight?  Diabetes, adrenal issues, etc?

I'm pretty new here and there might be someone else who can answer your question better.  I might also suggest that you join us over on Weight Loss and Dieting Forum.  There are lots of games and challenges to participate in and lots of support and good ideas to try.

My doctor tells me that I need to eat less (I currently eat around 1200 calories/day) and exercise more (I currently walk several miles/day, plus work out for 30 minutes most days) and so far nothing has helped, but I just keep at it.  His exact words were "MOVE MORE" and I found myself wondering where I would find time in my day to do that when I have a full time job, house to run, etc.

I agree that it can be very depressing - we just have to keep at it.  So far, I'm managing to hold fairly steady, meaning that even though I haven't been able to lose much of anything, I'm at least not gaining a lot either.  I am also currently in the process of trying to rule out other causes of weight retention, while continuing to exercise and watch my diet.

Good luck and hope to see you around.

I was hyperthyroid, had RAI in June this year (after GAINING 16 kilograms)and it has only been in the last month that I am starting to lose the weight.
Slowly but losing and not gaining.
I think Ive lost about 3 kgs but only because my levels are now normal.
Until you get those levels under control, you will not lose weight.
You can try everything like I have and not lose it ....sometimes even gain it with fluid.
Get yr levels right first then try the exersise to lose the weight.
Harsh as it may sound, speaking from experience...it is so hard to lose the weight once your levels are out of 'whack'.
Good Luck, I wish I could be more positive.
