fundoplication,gastroparesis, hiatal hernia surgery or not

A recent bout of gastroparesis return required a repeat of hospitalizations, dehydration, renal failure etc. I restarted my domperidone after reglan nor erythromycin worked. I also took amitiza aftyer zelnorm went off market. Supposedly I went into CHF due to tyhe Domperidone & a cardiac issue, ICU , adrenal glands shut down, kidneys didn't work. This was miserable I ended up on massive steroids weight gain blah, blah , blah. I am a chronic asthmatic controlled however gastroparesis hiatal hernia and myodysplasia. Those are my issues

Should I have the new laparoscopic fundoplication surgery, wrap recommended highly from my internist (whom decided after not recommending the procedure there is a new safer procedure laproscopically? He feels my lungs can take it and then I wouldn't requre the continued need of tons meds. I weigh 190 now from steroids. I'm unsure of what to do Should I have the surgery now? I have just started feeling less than dead blood counts normal , no meds and a decrease in vomiting. I take tigan and zofran for that PRN  I trust my Internist he is also a friend of 20 years He knows me. I don't want to be worse though than before. I have an appt with the surgeon on Tues.               Help

I can not tell you what to do but I am 32 now and have had three nissen fundoplications since 2004. The first was done by a general surgeon yet the other two were done by a specialists. Recently I was sent to the Mayo Clinic due to symptoms and that is when we found out that the vagal nerve was severed during my 2006 nissen and now I have gastroparesis and all its glory. During my last nissen in 2006   my stomach was cut twice, lung was collapsed and  it took  over 7 hours laproscopically. I also have tried the domperidone from New Zealand with no luck so I discontinued. I will not take Reglan because if taking for long periods of time it too can cause serious nervous problems. I am not contimplating the gastric stimulator or a gastrectomy of 75percent, That iswhy I joined this forum to find out inputs from others like me who have been through the same situation. I hope this helps but like isaid only you can make the decision for yourself. Everyones medical situation is unique in there own way and all I can say is i was so eager to listen to my dr and get help and now I am in worse shape that before.  Again good luck with everything.

If the surgeon you are seeing is not a bariatric surgeon....  stop.  Only let an experienced bariatric surgeon do the fundo.  Go out there and you will find many horror stories.    

Find the most experienced bariatric surgeon you can find and make sure he does a loose wrap.

The surgery is great if you have a great dr and it is done by lapro.  It is a horror if done wrong.

I can not tell you if you should get the surgery, but if you trust your doctor then I would go with what he says. I have a hiatal hernia as well that is highly symptomatic to the point where I feel I can not breathe. Please let me know if you decided to go through with the laproscopic wrap surgery and if so, how are you doing?
