Inflamed fringe under tongue

by Tostitos, Apr 27, 2007 12:00AM
I have a fringe under my tongue on both sides, sort of like the danglers from deep sea fish. This hasn't ever bothered me, but recently one of the fringe pieces has gotten painful and inflamed, the other day it was normal looking with a dot of pale, now it looks like it has a blood blister.

I'm thinking it might be ulcerated, or I completely lucked out and got a canker sore right on that tender little bit of tissue.

I don't feel like going to a doctor since I'm broke at the moment, so my first instinct is to ask people on the internet. Thanks! :)

I have what seems to be similar problem and i can not eat is makes it worse. Its all under my tongue and seems to move around AFTER MANY HOURS from the back to the front under the tongue. Are you alergic to anything? I am not as far as I know and soemone suggested its an alergic reaction.

I have the same thing right now.  I'm 61, female, California.  I realized that it hurt and without thinking I simply scratched it with my fingernail.  I did that to find out where the pain was, exactly where it was.

It turns out that I broke it open and never saw what it looked like in its swollen state, nor did I see what came out of it.  Only minutes later did I look at it with a mirror and there was a ragged edge (the fringe) and a small amount of blood.

The area painful, but less painful before I broke it open.  I used Q-tips (cotton swab on a paper stick) dipped into peroxide to clean it.  I did remove the dead tissue as I cleaned it.

This morning, there is no pain though it is still a bit sensitive.  It doesn't act like a canker sore because that pain lasts a long time.
