blood work/ultrasound/biopsy

by sue, Apr 08, 2000 12:00AM
I have a viral load of 2 million on a Hep C PCR.  However the report states that "this procedure is not intended to be used as a screening test for HCV or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HCV infection" and "it has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration."  So does this mean I need another test?  I also had an ultrasound and everything was found to be normal.  Does cirrhosis, fibrosis or cancer  show up on an ultrasound? How do I find out my genotype?  Must I have more blood test? Must I request a biopsy? I  asked for the nurses to fax me the above info but the doctor will not discuss these results with me. I have called my gastro 4 times to no avail.  Thank you in advance.

Hello Sue. I am Hep 1, as most people in the U.S. are. Ask your doctor, he or she will tell you. And if they won't, find another one. Well, I am in the same boat you are, and many other people, so don't feel alone. As far as the ultrasound goes, i don't know, but I would rather have that then a liver biopsy. You know, fear of needles and all. Google it  and see, that is what I am going to do. Take care.
