FibroSpect Test by Prometheus Lab

by TravelGrl, Feb 12, 2003 12:00AM
Does anybody have any information on this new blood test that is supposed to detect liver fibrosis instead of a biopsy?  I know it looks at three biological markers...Just wondering if people on treatment could get any accurate result, being that our blood test results are altered by our medication.(lower platelets, lower rbc and wbc, etc.) I think the test looks at all these factors?  They did this test on Amanda yesterday, but I think since here platelets and other blood counts are much lower due to treatment, she may not get the real picture...If anyone has any information on what biological markers they look at in this test, that would be great...

Thank you

Jodi

Hi..
Yes it's common that lab tests and result levels are affected by treatment.

The test is called Firbo/Acti Test & a Fibro scan xray
In order to try to substitute the Biopsy, there's also a new test called Fibrosure.

but i am not positive if they could substitute the biopsy, my Husband is infected with HCV & uptil now we're not going for Biopsy. we did all the above , but not Fibrosure..

He didn't receive treatment yet

this is not a new test. been around for quite some time. it is mostly accurate on the low end (no fibrosis) or high end (cirrhosis). not that accurate for middle stages.
