Blood when wiping with toilet paper

by umbleego, Dec 02, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, I'm a 20 year old male in fairly good health, far from athletic but I don't drink, do drugs, etc. Anyways, for the past week  something bizarre has been happening to me... Every time I go to the bathroom and wipe my behind and there is lots of blood on the toilet paper, this has been happening for a week now and I am getting a little worried. There is no pain or anything else unusual happening, just the blood, and there is lots of it... The strange part is that my stools don't look bloody, it's just when I wipe when there's all the blood. Does anybody here have any clue as to what this could be? I hope someone out there can help me out. Is there anything here to worry about yet? Should I wait a month or so and see if it quits before seeing a doctor? Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Did you strain yourself when you move your bowel?

Do you have hemorroid?

by umbleego, Dec 02, 2006 12:00AM
I don't have any hemmoroids.

by umbleego, Dec 02, 2006 12:00AM
I also didn't strain myself.

I would bet it is a hemmoroid. YOu don't need to strain to develop them. It is probably an internal hemmoroid. You can get hemmoroids just by sitting on the pot for too long. So for example, I used to sit and read and read and read even though I was done with my business, but that alone causes strain on the sphincter etc.

If it was an internal colon issue, the blood would be dark red and in your bowel movement.

If I was you, I would just go to the doctor and have a physical. They will probably find a hemmoroid when they give you the old finger exam.

Thanks for your help. I am going to wait a week and see if it goes away, if it doesn't I will seek medical help.

There hasn't been any blood for the past couple days so I think that the problem is gone, I must have just had an internal hemorrhoid or something. Thanks everybody!

You might have anal fissures. These are splits in the skin around the anus not easily seen unless you pull around your anus. They are caused by hard dry stool. In that case you have constipation which you have to correct. Try adding more fiber and liquid to your diet. Also, jostling one buttock while defecating helps reduce friction with hard stool and eases elimination.

i have that problem too, sometimes there's blood, sometimes not, it's been like that for a couple years. It's not dark blood, the problem doesn't bother me that much but, should I worry about it?.

I have been dealing with a severely itchy anus for months now. It is unbearable at times. I have been noticing blood when I wipe only for the past week. I get so itchy that I can't help but scratch, but the blood has only now shown up. I don't think the blood is from my scratching because it would have shown up a while ago, but I can't help but think they are related. There is no blood in my stool. I am about thirty pounds overweight and drink about three to four drinks twice a week. I also take a long time on the pot, reading well after the business is done.

Blood in stool or by wiping can be very serious.  My dad lost his twin brother at 57 yrs of age due to ignoring these types of symptoms.  He had colon cancer.  I would not take this too lightly and seek a doctor's advice.  I recommend a colonoscopy (not flex sig because it only covers half the intestine).
