Gallbladdar Stones (Biliary Colic) and Liver Enzymes

by MichaelOklahoma, Mar 15, 2007 12:00AM
I've had 4 episodes of intense stomach pain which I think is related to Biliary Colic from Gallstones (symptoms - sudden constant pain, middle abdomen below sternum, various movements don't cause pain to subside).   My last episode was on 3-2 and lasted 1 hour and I went to the ER because of it...however the wait was several hours and I left without seeing a doctor.  I had a physical the next day (3/3) and the blood tests revealed high liver enzymes (AST 479 ALT 445).  I also had an ultrasound and the report states "the gallbladder contains small stones, the common bile duct is of normal caliber at 4mm...right lobe of liver measures 14.1 cm and appears unremarkable.  Impression - Cholelithiasis".  The doc has ordered a liver panel to look for Hepatitis, but I don't have any symptoms of it.  Doc doesn't think the stones are a big deal.   I have two questions:

Would a gallbladder stone attack the day before cause the liver enzymes to spike to these high levels?

Why does the ultrasound say Cholelithiasis - does that cause high liver enzymes?

I can really answer your question, but I believe it is related to the increase of the enzymes.
The reason I say that is because I suffer from the same pain and it is every week, however it last about 45 to 60 seconds each time.

I have been having the pain for about a year now.

Take care and good luck

I'm not sure if I have the same thing, but I can say to avoid the pain, just stay on a high fiber diet, avoid all high saturated fatty foods, or if you still want to eat some, make sure you eat a lot of oat meal or malt o meal in the morning.. or something.
That's what I did.
My gallstones caused me hours of pain...
Once I could even feel that my gallbladder was swollen just by touch my abdomen.
Now I have no problems with it.
