Possible reasons for Mitochondrial Antibody test to be 1:160?

Is the Mitochondrial Antibody test along a reason to diagnose a liver function problem?  We saw an internist today who said that he didn't think it meant anything bc the rest of my dauthter's tests were okay.  Slight elevation in Bilirubin and Slight AlKphose elevation.  This internist acted like we were way off to be concerned.  I hope he's right.  My daughter is almost 18 and has been sick for some time.  Extreme fatigue and pain in hands and wrists.  Thanks for any help!

Lipase & Amylase are pancreatic enzymes.  Yours are in normal range.  Amylase 30-110.  Lipase 30-300.    DJ

I think that your daughters doctor was checking for auto immune conditions.  I would recommend that you get copies of your daughters lab test results, you are entitiled to them ( your daughter may have to request them because of her age).  I have Auto Immune Hepatitis and was tested for alot of other auto immune disorders like  lupus, arthritis, etc to find out what was the cause of my joint pain.  There is a web site labtestsonline.org , my local hospital recommends this site.  It explains what the tests are for and gives alot of good information about them.

The waiting for a diagnosis is hard.  I know I wanted to know and now. It is good to be informed, ask lots of questions, if you are not statisfied you can always get a second opinion.  A specialist, is a good choice.  If you have confidence in your doctor give him a chance to answer your questions and get results.

This is a patient forum, there are no doctors here is answer questions. But alot of us have been there. If I can help let me know.

Take care

Hi friends,
I got some news today that almost made me fall out of my chair. I asked several times if it was my chart. can some of you that know the interpretations of bloodwork give me an opinion?
Lypase : 30
Biloruban: 0.6
ALT: 43
AST: 32
Amalase: 45

the test was done Thursday, the results were obtained by me a few minuets ago. She said all liver functions were NORMAL!?
However, the Hep C tests were not in yet. The Dr. reviewed the tests himself and verified.

I can't answer that question but you and your daughter should see a liver specialist. They are called "heptologists" and can usually be found at your larger, teaching hospitals. Unfortunately, your average internist knows very little about liver disease.
