Reallllllly odd sides!!!!

Thank you all for your previous help.  I am HepC1b, 14 weeks into meds, have had all of the sides.  I   am taking pegysus and riba, 1200 mg.  The fatigue etc. have been unusually strong, and the doc pretty much leaves me to my own devices to take care of them.  I am currently experiencing a sore mouth and gums. So far labs are OK, but low. I have heard of this with chemo, so I suppose it could happen with the interferon. I have to be careful with the doc,as he dislikes communicating with his patients.  Ah well, he is the only hep. in this town. Since the doc does not answer his calls, and his staff does not either.........Help!!!!   Thanks   Nikki

As a two week in 'site-addict', I just want to say Thanks again, everyone!!!  Mouth issues were what I considered do-able sx.  Who knew I could treat this annoying sx?  Y'all really are ALL lovely people!!!  Thanx

Diane, I tried e-mail the other nite.  Too lame to figure it out.  Didn't want you to tink I had abandoned you.  My husband is in town today, so I'll ask his assistance.  Hopefully will talk with you soon. Lori

I've had problems all along with the gums and whole mouth pretty much and nothing has helped it no matter how much I try.  I did try every single under the sun and now I just use a cheap old mixture of baking soda, salt water and a pinch of peroxide (of course I don't swallow it) to rinse my mouth.

It worked as good for ME as any of the expensive things at trying to keep the problem under control.

I STILL get the fatigue on day after shot day. That I have had all along. Keep an eye on your labs because if your hemo drops suddenly like mine did - you will be devastated.

So it's best to make sure he is being completely proactive with the CBCs.

Hi Nikki, I am new to treatment but have been watching this forum for about 4 months.  Many here have talked about Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash, they also have a type of liquid you squirt in your mouth no alcohol and is supposed to relieve the mouth sores and the dry mouth that comes with TX.  when I was looking for it here I also found a new one by sensodyne called oasis which is very similar but it is a spray.  hope this helps

EVERYTHING hurt my mouth and throat but I only had sores a couple times. I found keeping my mouth wet always helped, and eating food like yogurt, oatmeal, pudding, protien shakes worked pretty good. Warm hurt least. mmmmm, warm tapioca pudding!!!!

Nikki -- Yuk - mouthsores!  I got them the first couple weeks on treatment.  My dentist prescribed "Magic Mouthwash". I'm sure there's a more technical term for it, but it even said that on the prescription.  It's great - got rid of mine in a day or so.  You just swish it around your mouth & spit it out.  It numbs your mouth a little, but gets rid of the mouthsores.  Also works for those tiny little white canker sores, too.  After the first month of tx, I didn't get them any more.   Best of luck, hope your sx ease up like mine did!

Hey your always buttin in and making me look as stupid as I am!  I didn't really have a good answer but I always feel bad when there's a question and no one has answered it yet.  I guess my impulsive ADD personality is hard to hide.

I didn't know all that stuff! Salt water is great, I didn't think of that. My tongue hurts too. I think I may have to start eating baby food, as ANY pepper is instant burn for hours.

I am going to have to get that biotene. I wake up at night with my mouth and tongue hurting. It could be cuz' I have my mouth open, but STILL it hurts!

I hate it. It hurts to eat and forget about spicy food. My tounge even hurts. Here is what I do when it get really bad , warm salt water , I know , sounds like my grandfathers dentist made it up , but I think its a widely known remedy. I actually put a cup of water in the micro and nuke it for 30 seconds or so
with a table spoon of salt. It makes my mouth feel better almost immeadeatly and speeds up the healing. Before I go to bed I gargle with Biotene mouth wash like painterlady mentioned. If you havent used it before its.... interesting. It helps get rid of dry mouth , kills germs that can cause bad breath. Its actually a little thicker than water so it stays in your mouth a little longer when you sleep.

You probably knew this stuff already and I just wasted your time. If not , I hope it helps.

peace
