Hello and I definately can relate. I used to suffer from absolutely horrible RUQ pain that radiated to my RLQ similar to your own. I was given many tests, all came out normal and I was passed from doctor to doctor to try and figure out what the heck was going on. First they thought it could be costrochondritis (inflammation of the cartilage around the ribcage that can immitate a gallbladder problem) but I refused to accept that. It wasn't until I visited a Gastro surgeon that took the extra step to figure out what was wrong - He had me take a PIPIDA with CCK test and that nailed the problem. Oddly, my gallbladder was ceasing to work for no real reason, though my doctor thinks its because it's been inflammed for so long. No gallstones and no sludge - It was just quitting on me. When they went to remove it they found it was white in color, nearly see-through and actually attaching itself to other organs via these strange spider-web 'appendages'. It was bad, but thankfully they caught the problem in time before it became something serious. I suggest you ask for a PIPIDA with CCK if you haven't already done it and to try and lessen the pain you should try a lowfat diet (cut out cheese, milk products and grease) and see if that helps a bit with the pain and also try icy/hot patches on the site to help soothe. I hope this information is helpful!
Thanks for the comments. I live in Ontario and was told I should go to a teaching hospital because all the traditional tests were negative, Whatever is wrong is not usual. I really hate taking demerol but when the attack hits it is the only thing I can use that takes the edge off the pain. Right now I eat dairy free--gluten free and sugar free. It does not make a difference and I do not know what the trigger is---something is wrong for sure!!!!
I too have been having pain in my upper right side. The dr says classic sign of gallbladder, but test show that it is negative. Have you had the HIDA scan? My dr says that it is possible to have problems with the gallbladder but tests are negative. I am currently doing other tests to see what it could be. Don't want to jump the gun and have surgery if I don't have to do it. I am lucky to have been able to get into a GI quickly, it is sometimes very hard to get into see one. My regular GI who I have seen since a kid I couldn't get into see for several months so my general dr called around. I would call around maybe and try different doctors. It ***** to have no diagnosis.
why do you have to wait until september to see a gi doc? that is a really long time to be waiting!
