aortic valve replacement

by Charlesey, Nov 03, 2006 12:00AM
I am almost 81 years old.  I have coronary artery disease managed with medications.  I was told today that I will need an aortic valve replacement at some point.  I was also told that at my age recovery is not good and that patients often end up permanently in nursing homes.  I am alert, love to go to the book store, up on politics, active but not nearly as much as before.  This sounds close to a death sentence.  Does anyone have positive stories?

Fact is, no surgery has an assured outcome. However, you can minimize your risk by having your surgery done by the best surgeon you can find. My suggestion is that regardless of where you are, that you get a consultation from Cleveland Clinic.
