New Lab results. forumers please help share some light.

by Anthony K, Apr 10, 2007 12:00AM
Can you guys please share some lights on this current Lab results for me? From the latest results, I noticed my Creatine Kinase is getting worse.

TESTS RESULTS UNITS RANGE

LDH 147 IU/L 100-250
Creatine Kinase, Total Serum 362 U/L 24-204
Aldolase 9.9 U/L 1.2-7.6
LDL Cholesterol calc 121 Mg/DL 0-99
Lymphs 49 % 14-46
HBV quantitative 386,000

I’m currently in my third month of taking Tyzeka. (Telbivudine) I noticed a substantial decrease in viral load from 5,300,000. To 386,000. While I’m excited about the VL decrease, I’m also gravely concern about the continued elevation of CK and the Aldolase. The creatine Kinase was 287 in my January lab work and it rose to 362 in this current results. Could the medicine Tyzeka be causing the CK and the Aldolase to be elevating? Should I propose to my doc to switch meds? I’m concern the elevations could be signs of skeletal muscle disease.
The question lingering my mind is what else could trigger the CPK to be elevated? How can I be sure the elevation is not caused by any other factor? Is there a way to find that out?
Thank You.

Skeletal Muscle damage is a potential side effect from Telbivudine. That is why your dr ordered those tests. Since he has seen the results and still has you on them then I wouldn't second guess him.

Good to see you stuck to the drug as I remember a few months back you were talking about going of it. Telbivudine is more powerful than the other current HBV antivirals so I would be hesitant about switching.

Thanks. I really love the med... Just that I'm having serious muscle pain at my left shoulders. The pain has gotten worse within the last couple of days. When I turn or touch the spot, I don't feel any pain but when I inhale or exhale I feel excruciating pain. Kinda feels like someone is putting a needle in me. This evening, the pain moved down my spine and it is making any breath I take a hassle. I did a research on tyzeka info page and I learnt it could be a sign of Myopathy. (Muscle weakness & soreness). I'll be calling my doc's office tomorrow to see if there's any other step we can take.
