Any weight loss tips for a breastfeeding mom?

by verystressed07, Jul 08, 2007 08:24PM
Hi, I'm 37 weeks pregnant with twins and I have a scheduled c-section on wednesday (11th). I plan on breastfeeding and I was wondering if there are any breastfeeding moms or moms who have breastfed. You see, I'll have about 75 lbs to lose when my twins are born and I'd like to know what's worked for you.

Thank you

Hi,

congs on your twins and wish you the best on Wednesday. You will naturally shed off some weight after birth. Try eating lots of fruits and drink lots of water. Where i come from, they believe that a new monther should always have a flash full of millet porridge to help her get lots of b milk - it works yes but it also makes one put on alot of weight. Breast feeding alone aids in weight loss. Enjoy the twins

the very best advice i can give you (and i do this 40 hours a week working as a nutritionist with pregnant and BFing women!) is to breastfeed as much as you possibly can!  it's the quickest and easiest way to lose that baby weight!

keep your fluids high, as you will need lots to drink when you're releasing that much liquid from your body and into your babies.

don't let anyone tell you that whole milk will make your breastmilk better.  it won't.  it will just give you unnecessary calories!  stick with 1% or skim.

stay lower fat and take your prenatals still.  BFing for two takes a lot out of a woman's body and you will need those extra vits!

good luck and congrats :)  you have a big and important job ahead of you and you're giving your babies the best gift by BFing them!
