Calorie Needs During Pregnancy

Women do need more calories during pregnancy, but not until their second and third trimester. That means during the first trimester, you should be sticking to your typical diet. During the second and third trimester, expectant mothers need only 300 extra calories per day. That's not much — it's about the equivalent of two cookies, an extra serving at dinner or a large glass of juice.
