What is Periostat?

Periostat 20 mg Tab
Drug Name: DOXYCYCLINE 20 MG - ORAL
Other Brand Names: Periostat
Uses: This product is used in patients with gum disease (periodontitis) after a certain dental procedure (scaling and root planing). It helps to improve tooth attachment and reduce gum pockets. Doxycycline belongs to the class of antibiotics known as tetracyclines. At this low dosage, this medication does not treat bacterial infections, but it may help to prevent breakdown of gum tissue. Antibiotics do not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
