Drug Name: INSUL ISOPHANE SUSP (PORK)-INJ
Uses: This insulin product is an intermediate-acting insulin that comes from pigs. It is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Isophane insulin starts to work more slowly but lasts longer than regular insulin. Isophane insulin is often used in combination with a shorter-acting insulin. In some people with diabetes, insulin may be used alone or with other diabetes drugs (e.g., sulfonylureas like glyburide). People with diabetes do not make enough insulin for their body to properly use the sugar in food.
