What is dipyridamole?

dipyridamole 5 mg/mL IV
Drug Name: DIPYRIDAMOLE - INJ
Other Brand Names: Persantine IV
Uses: This medication is used to test the heart for blocked arteries and heart damage ("chemical" stress test). In a normal stress test, a patient exercises to make the heart beat faster. Dipyridamole may be used if you cannot safely exercise enough to make your heart beat faster. It causes the blood vessels in the heart to open. Diseased blood vessels do not open as well as healthy vessels, and this effect can be seen in images of the heart that are taken during the test.
