maltodextrin...

Dec 06, 2009 11:46AM - 0 comments

well going potato/soy free...

Years ago I would take fiber supplements and they wouldn't do ANYTHING..the gastro doctors would say "how much fiber you doing?"  and i'd reply "oh 3 scoops citrcel.."

"DOUBLE IT...see me in 30 days.."  ($300 doctor visit..)

well now that i've taken potato's and soy out of my diet, I took 6 metamucil pills which is basically amounts to one tablespoon of psyillium husk right?

Wow bloating.. holy smokes nausea.. too much fiber!!  Finally fiber does something!  I could take 18 fiber pills a day and it still wouldn't do squat.

So I thought ok i'll go back to a non-gassy fiber.. like citrucel....

2 days later i'm hurting and constipation.. so I went online and did some research, well..i'm not sure if i'm intolerant to corn so i've been avoiding it testing it but I DO KNOW for sure i'm very intolerant to potato's now.  Well guess what's in the ingredients of citrucel?  Maltodextrin..which can be potato source..corn..or chemical but ..yeah..

Anyway VERY frustrating.  I'm off dairy..not sure if that makes a difference or not but it seems like if the ingredients are not simple I can't eat it..or I'm too afraid too.  Anyway but I've very excited though..just so frustrating how slow this process is.  Potatoes... months and months eating those things and I didn't think about them.  Now i've got to avoid those as well as soy.

I hope there's nothing else but right now i'm on 4 days of eggs for breakfast and then i'll switch to either normal dairy again or hope my rice milk doesn't have any goofy ingredients.  I'm still gluten free but even that i'm not so sure if that's really a problem or not.

Anyway... hopefully I can work soon, I'm sick of sitting around!

nightshades..wow...

Dec 01, 2009 01:31PM - 0 comments

Well, I've been gluten free for about a month and a half and i'm not thrilled with the progress...yes i'm doing slightly better but still..bad anxiety..bad IBS..bad insomnia..still out of work :(

So this thanksgiving my sister trying to help me out made some potatoes without ANYTHING on them, and put them in a seperate bowl for me to have.  Nice sister (Wendy).

So I skipped breakfast because I knew we were going to have a big meal..and so I ate mostly yam and apples..and some turkey.  Yes they did have stuffing in the turkey but I don't think I got any gluten...plus i'm not even sure I AM gluten intolerant...(I get constipation if I eat even corn chex which doesn't make sense since it's gluten free..)

So anyway..I was feeling half decent..palms sweating and a little anxiety but that's about it.

Later that night I got hungry so I took my sister bowl of mashed up potatoes and zapped it in the microwave.  Ate it.

Hour later I was pretty sick.. and I thought to myself, why am I having such a bad reaction to potatoes??!!?? that's weird.. so I wondered how many times am I eating potatoes and researched nightshades.  Next day..again..my mom cooks with potatoes (it seems like every meal is potatoes..) so this meal was a soup, with peppers/potatoes/mushrooms/and some coconut milk mixed in and rice flour to add thickness.  It was good...but just right on cue that night my hands were sweating like crazy, and I was VERY sick.

So the next day I told myself ok..no more potatoes/tomatoes/nightshades/peppers.. breakfast puffed rice and milk, little upset stomach so i'll stop dairy here once I run out but lunch was a brown rice tortilla with turkey and avacado.. dinner was rice cakes...I know not a very good meal that day..but yup...wasn't anything sick like the night before, and I actually slept a little..

So I have hunch that I am soy intolerant and possibly nightshade intolerant.  Not sure about celiac/gluten but i'm staying on the diet just in case.  I'll stop dairy here in a few days and switch back to a gluten free rice milk.  Question is..is this a potatoe intolerance or nightshade?  If it's Potatoe then I've read I have to watch vitamin A palmitrate..and dextrose for expample..which is in rice chex..rice milk.. so I dunno...I hope it's just nightshade and not gluten..that would make life so much easier.  Easier to avoid potatoes/tomatoes/peppers instead of wheat barley oats and rye...avoiding soy is hard enough.

So i'm optomistic..we'll see how I feel by friday totally nightshade free.  I had no idea how many times we were eating potatoes for dinner, I don't blame my mother for cooking them because she thought they were safe, and I knew about them on elimination diets but I thought to myself "nahhh...potatoes? nahh...can't be.." so I ignored that on the elimination diet..well.. looks like I very well could be.  Also Dairy seems to upset my stomach.. so I might be lactose intolerant or diary intolerant but we'll see.. anyway some hope this dismal holidays season.  I'd like to start working asap.  If I can't fly I want to fly at the very least.. last night I was walking around my room thinking "wow I feel so much better than last night...was it potatoes?  Has to be that's really the only thing I took out..."

Anyway thought I'd share... off to the airport to escape...been on the PC too much lately.

IBS..

Nov 09, 2009 12:03PM - 0 comments

Now that i've taken gluten/corn/dairy/soy out of my diet...

My anxiety/nausea levels have dropped but i've realized that i'm still having severe IBS pains especially on my left side.  I did citrucel but for some reason citrucel makes me feel worse and more constipated...not sure if it's the citric acid (which is possibly made from corn...) or the sugars that citrucel has..

I know the main ingredient to benefiber is wheat dextrin but i'm going to give it a shot..i've been doing about 20 grams of fibersure (made from chicory root..) but it's giving me severe gas..

Reason I'm so gun ho on IBS and fiber now is a few days ago my parents got me some dates to eat.. wow they're good I went though a whole tub of those things real quick.  Instead of getting super sick after eating all those dates I actually had close to normal bowel movements, and felt quite a bit better!

Now i'm thinking after 4 years of eating soy and having anxiety attacks my system is just riddled with IBS..and maybe i'm not intolerant to corn and wheat or dairy...maybe I am but most likely my system just needs mass fiber and water and needs to be retrained and "stretched out" and given a break basically.  My hands are dry and sitting here at home I feel like I can work but soon as I get out of the house I start having IBS issues...any sort of stress..or if someone comes up to me close and talks to me I start having pains up and down my left side...like knots.. it S U C K S!!

ANyway so on to fiber...off to the grocery store to do benefiber.  I'm so close dangit!! I NEED TO WORK ASAP!

ah nuts...

corn is an issue it looks like..

during my elimination diet I wasn't on any fiber supplement, and I started citrucel...BAM pain..IBS-C...so I stopped...

Looking at the powder the only ingredient I can think of is citric acid...

So this monday..out of normal rice cereals I had some left over corn chex (gluten free) and I ate a few bowls...

BAM...4 days of severe IBS-C...

So researching it, I've found that citric acid is manufactured from corn...lovely.  It still could be a citrus intolerance...but then again why would corn chex have major issues??  Is it citrus/citric acid?  Or corn?  So i'm avoiding both...and I switched to rice dream *yes it has gluten in it I know* but pacific rice milk has corn in it!  So..yeah i'm sort of lost...

I'm still egg...dairy..soy..wheat..free for the most part and i'll see how I feel in a week or two avoiding all corn.  I know larbars have no corn in them.

ALSO QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO KNOWS I COULDN'T"T FIND THIS BUT CITRUCEL HAS CITRIC ACID IN IT AND BENEFIBER IS MADE FROM WHEAT DEXTRIN (they use part of corn in their products)

SO I E-MAILED FIBERSURE/METAMUCEL CLEAR AND NATURAL TO SEE IF THEY'RE PRODUCT IS CORN FREE...anyone know if it is??  It's made from a vegitble inulin fiber..so I think it's safe.. I guess I could try it.  I'm trying to shake this left sided consitpation pain I deal with daily.

Anyway...onward...I go...also a side note I started studying for my flight instructor written exams again.  I really do think i'm very very close to cracking this case.   Soy...Corn...hopefully that's it!
