It all started with a scheduled induction that was scheduled for Monday, June 2. I was to be at the hospital at 6:00 am and the baby and I would begin our journey into the unknown. Saturday, May 31 was like no other. We had been spending the day cleaning fans, air vents, anything and everything we could think of getting ready to bring baby home. I mean it was only two days away from her expected birthday.
Well, I guess I must have worked too hard that day. By 6:00 pm I started having contractions. By 8:00 pm they were 5-6 minutes apart and we hand an hour and half drive to the hospital. Still not convinced I was in labor, I fought my husband all the way. I was NOT prepared to go to the hospital just to be turned right back around. Besides, my Dr wasn't on call that weekend. I DID NOT want someone else delivering my baby. This was my second pregnancy with my Ob. I just love that man! He's the greatest ever.
Around midnight, June 1 the Dr on call decided to admit me when I went from a dialation of 2 to 2 1/2 in an hour. It was at that point I realized THIS WAS IT! It was really cool though because a part of me wanted to go into spontaneous labor. By 12:30 I was set up in L & D. By 2:00 am the Dr on call was in. It was a very homely looking woman with a very soft voice. I was pleasantly surprised. I was so scared I was going to end up with some grouchy old man, or woman. Dr Bradford actually turned out to be an associate of Dr. Z's. That put me a little at ease too. I knew then they had most of the same practices.
Dr. Bradford, explained what was going on and what she had planned. She told my nurse as soon as I was ready, I could have my epidural. At that point, I wasn't in pain. That is until she broke my water and WOW did those contractions pick up. Not to mention they had started pictocin. I think it was a little high. My contractions started coming quick. During the breaking of my water my bed became possesed and started raising at the foot and then at the head. It was really freaky. It didn't take long before I was requesting the epidural. Even though I was reluctant because with my last baby they nicked my spine and I had to have a blood block. Which by the way didn't work and I had a migraine headace for a week after his birth. I was very, very nervous about the whole thing, but went along with it anyways. I just didn't want to get stuck with a huge baby and feel every bit of the pain. My last baby was 9lbs 13oz. I had to weigh my options. Headace or killer delivery....Hmmmmm
At about 4:00 the nurse checked me and I was dialated 10cm and 100% effaced. She called the nurses station and requested the Dr come to deliver this baby. She started getting the room prepared while we waited for the Dr. Low and behold, now the overhead lamp was blown. She had to call in another nurse to change it. About the time Dr Bradfor arrived, the lamp was just fixed and I was ready to push. Dr. B thought she was coming in to okay the epidural and give me a look over. She had just enough time to get her gloves and mask on when I had to start pushing. It was so wild.......Crazy!
Well, the epidural DID NOT work!!!! I felt every bit of it. But on to the good news. I only pushed 3 times, about 5 minutes and she was out.........I can't believe how fast she was born. It was very painful, so painful I couldn't hold my own legs, but very quick. Thank God for small blessings. My beautiful angel was born at 4:13 am and was 8lbs 3oz and 19 in.
Now we're home and loving every minute of it. For my last child, it was a wonderful experience. I almost had that there will be no more......Sad, but financially not possible....
