Such a hassle trying to get the initial appointment to the ECT doctor in my town. My psychiatrist and the ECT doctor have been playing phone tag.

I cannot schedulte the initial appointment until my psychiatrist actually speaks with the ECT doctor. So here I am still waiting.

I had a severe migrane today. I woke up with it and it pretty much has lasted all day. It is worse when I stand up or bend over. It is a severe throbbing pain.

I'm very depressed. Crying and praying a lot.

Turns out there is a doctor that does ECT in the same town I live. It would be much less of a hassle to be able to have the treatments here as opposed to having to drive 3 hours round trip. So, the down side is here we go again with the waiting. My psych has to call and speak with this new ECT doctor before I can set up an initial visit. I’m praying, crying, and waiting.

I finally met my ECT doctor today. It went well. I talked face to face with him for an hour and a half. First, he completed a family history going back to my childhood. He was very thorough.

Next, we discussed when I first was diagnosed with depression at age 21 and all treatment I had received up until now.

He then explained the procedure to me in detail and answered all my questions. He reviewed my current medications and told me I would need to be taken off the adderall and xanax before I could receive the ECT. The Celexa and Zyprexa would not affect the ECT so I can stay on those.

I need to have a CAT scan and blood work along with the EKG and physical I already had. I’m overwhelmed and exhausted by all this information. It has been a very long day. I am thankful that the doctor seemed very caring and very competent.

I'm nervous about meeting the ECT doctor Thursday. It does not help that many people are very against ECT. I know about the risks and I'm not being forced into this. For my own well being  I am not going to read anymore negative information about the procedure. I am in God's hands.
