While some people appear to "sail through life", others might seem to wearliy continue to struggle from experience to experience and event in life. We may never know why this happens, but there is absolutely no reason to pretend that it doesn't happen. Even the smoothes... Working on my own depression and having met both sympathy and empathy and silence, there is no room for shying away from an open talk with a troubled person. We are all born to this earth and we stand united in making the greater, extended family work!
Your care might be the one thing that changes someone's perception!

Every situation is unique. Every human being is unique and it is impossible to find the "perfect way" of responding to a person who is depressed - but ultimately, however, words accompanied by steady support is better than a "get over it"-phrase.
No matter, when someone seeks support, we do tend to haul out the clichés. Maybe part of it is fear of hurting someone with "the wrong words", and maybe another part of it is that we don't know what we really think.

I'd like to address emotions as "speed bumps": Slowing down is a lot better than ruining the car, and we haven't got any choice!

When I was 5 years old, my mother committed suicide. The morning after is still very close. How she passed away and how it was dealt with has had a huge influence in my life. It has made me who I am today, in very many means.

I have been happily married for 4 years - with some downs as all marriages have when the initial crush settles and adjusts to become longlasting love, patience and preservance.

Currently I'm educating in prehospital care (waiting for results of the final exams), and I have worked close up to grief and death for 4 years. It eventually became my way to deal with my own depression.

From here, I've got 2 years to work as a trainee at the ambulance and I look very much forward to new challenges. I need to work at the side of this to make enough money to survive... That means two active jobs and family. People have managed it before :-p

As adults we often seek answers to life's riddles by trying to analyze events and causes. Sometimes this really works; more often it doesn't. When it comes to existential questions we come across elements of mysteries - something that leaves us in need of more than our own explanations.

When I came to MH after trying an online symptom-checker (never trust those!!!) for some worries, I did get incredibly much more understanding for the problem. I only had to adjust my diet a little bit! (Thank you Gastro-forum and others).

After a few posts later here and there, the friendlist started growing. (I still haven't forgotten about you even if I get slower and slower on replies)! Almost a month later, I found a few places where I felt I could give more. I try to base my replies on facts, but there are times I pull in my own experience. I encourage you all to do some bit of research if you are in doubt about how to reply. A few clicks on "Health topics" and you might find exactly what you are looking for. If you can help ONE with a link from MH, do so! It is horrible to fumble in darkness! [Less]
