My husband started his treatment for HCV on May 2. He is on PegIntron and Ribavirin. He took his shot at 9PM. He woke me up around 4 and he was cold and he was having hallucinations. I was very concerned because I didn't read about that in the literature. So I called my dad and we took him to the emergency room. They put him on saline and gave him some Tylenol because he had a fever of 104°F. They told him to stop his treatment. Now I am worried that he will not be able to continue it. We are expecting a call from the doctor tomorrow to let us know what we should do now. I sure hope she says he can continue. I have read that the first shot is supposed to be the worst. I can handle the hallucinations as long as he doesn't do anything dangerous. They took his blood at the hospital and everything came back ok. They were going to admit him but after laying there for a few hours, he got better and started acting normal again, so they sent him home. This weekend has been hell for me. I am just worried that everything we have been working towards these last 6+ months has gone down the drain. We have been looking forward to treatment and fighting the disease. I hope the doctor will still say it is ok to continue on. I am glad to know that the fever of 104° is not uncommon. We will just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow. I am going to sleep downstairs tonight to make sure I don't miss the phone in the morning.

I just finished my one year series w/an extra 6 weeks. When I first started my treatment, it was horrible. Fever, aching and ect. Make sure that if your husband continues the treatment, that he eats supper around 6pm and drink alot of water. About 8pm, he should go ahead and take Advil or any strong enough to ease the fever and pain. If he takes his shot at 9pm, he should take some tyenol along with the ribavirin. He's going to have the aching for a couple of days. Keep the tylenol going. If he becomes restless and can't sleep at night, request a prescription to help.

If he has a high stressful job, he may want to see about taking a medical leave. Depression is common, so keep it in mind and he may want to request seeing a mental counselor.

My biggest problem has been mental confusion, which caused me problems at work. So I took, short term disability.

hi im sue, i found out i was hep c positive during a routine blood test 3  weeks before having my son, i no the chances of me giving it to my son are small say 5%, i feel my sons chances of contractin it were hugely increased during labour, they had to perform a blood saturation test, at the time i wasnt thinking straight and allowed the procedure, it was only when they wanted to repeat it again 20 mins later when i refused i dawnded on me blood to blood contact was dangerous to my son, i dont even think anyone had read my  file, the midwife said she thought i was doing the right thing electing a section,   why the hell didnt she speak up sooner???? my son had his first birthday 2 wks ago and is hep c positive, i have just finnished 24 wks interferon and ribavirin which has worked thank god but was a absolute nightmare, to think my baby has to go through this is killing me, i no i will never no if my son got it naturally or through the procedure i had, i just hope no one else has to go through this.
