Broken Hearted!! Unwanted Baby Boy

May 13, 2008 02:09PM - 14 comments

So today they announced on the news today that yesterday morning they found a newborns body in one of the Excalubur's main floor bathroom trash cans! HOW ON EARTH CAN SOMEONE DO THAT? whether the pregnancy is wrong, unwanted, unplanned, unheathly, how can you do that? they announced this morning that the baby boy was healthy and cleaned up but had the umbilicol cord still connected and the mother had to have given birth near by. he was wrapped in a towl, placed in a pillow case and put in a plastic grocery bag. they made the safe haven law for unwanted newborns and gives you 3 days to give the baby up, no questions asked. they said today on the news that it isnt even used here. there are so many, myself included, people on this site, in this world that would LOVE and DIE to have a child period, yet cant. and there are all these people that dont want and dont care, blessed with a priceless gift from God. i just dont see how someone that can do this, has a concience. im so heartbroken over this because all i want is a healthy little baby boy (baby period at this point) and this innocent child didnt even have a chance!!!!! I PRAY TO GOD THEY FIND HER!!!! for more then just locking her up for murder but so she doesnt go on the rest of her life thinking that what she did was ok, or justified! they said they are going to do an otopsy to find out if he was still born and continue the investigation to find the mother. they are looking at all the cameras now to find anything. even if that baby was born dead, she should not have thrown it away, she had to have had something to hide!! GGGRRRR it just makes me shake im so upset!! i just dont understand HOW????

Its very upsetting when things like this happen.  Its is difficult to understand why Safe Haven isn't utilized more often, but unfortunately #1--it isn't widely publicized prior to these unfortunate events happening, and #2--many women, particularly young teens, don't understand how the law works and feel they may be punished.

It is an act of utter desperation and terror to go through a pregnancy full term, and to labor and deliver by yourself.  Many women, again, mostly very young women, have been in denial until presented with the undeniable reality of birth.  They can often react in a blind panic and make very, very bad decisions.

I would hope they can find her so that she can get the help she so desperately needs.  I don't know the circumstances of the mother, age, etc, so I can't really judge her.   Its not right what she did, of course.  But I hope she gets some help.

i agree, she does need help and you are right, i have no right judging her since i do not know her, who she is, or her age or so on, but no matter the age, unless metally challenged, should anyone think that the punishment of giving the unwanted child to authorities, where it will be taken care of, would EVER be greater then dumping it in a trash can and getting caught. of course, im sure most assume they will get away with it, and who knows, she may. i still just dont understand how anyone with a concience can do something so morally wrong. and again, who knows, i dont, she may have issues and may be unstable but its still unnerving knowing this goes on more then the public knows about! they have all these commercials for all kinds of different issues this world deals with, they need to make commercials for Child Haven with the message that, if you have to place left, please go to the authorities and make sure that the point comes across as a safe haven and safe choice. either way, if she is a sane, healthy young woman with a concience, she will have to live with what she did for the rest of her life whether she is caught or not.

I agree Asking. There is no excuse. If she is that messed up then she needs alot of help and is not fit for society!!!!

It really upsets me when people do stuff like this!! Here I am, going through hell and high water, trying to have a baby and A**holes like this are walking around having babies and leaving them to die...may God have mercy on her soul.

Gosh some people are just sick! If she didn't want the baby there are a million other options. I was watching TruTV a couple months ago and they had this hugh thing of Safe Haven.... it was on at like 3am though so I'm sure a lot of people didn't see it. Ugh... it needs to get out to more people.

I heard a story of a woman who had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. She abused her older daughter to the point the child was mentally handicapped. And at one point she gave birth and buried another baby, alive, in the backyard. Her older child went to the backyard and unburied the baby and watched it take its' last breaths. Being mentally handicapped, she didn't call the police. But at some point (I don't remember how the mother came under scrutiny, I believe doctors suspected it and reported her) the older daughter told the police about the baby and where she was buried. I think I saw the story on 20/20 or Dateline or a show similar to those. HEARTBREAKING, devastating, awful, horrible, ugly... I could go on and on.

There are people out there who are very very ill and the thing about Munchausen is that those mothers do not even realize they are hurting their children, they just want attention. They don't think they're doing anything wrong.

And Safe Haven is such an awesome thing, but unfortunately it is not widely advertised. Many women do not even know it's an option. I don't understand WHY someone would give birth and dump the baby. It could've been drugs, a mental disorder, a young girl who didn't know what to do, etc. I hope they catch the woman!!!

You know I was thinking about the Safe Haven law. Maybe you, your friends and family, could write a letter to your mayor and senator and ask for more funding to get this information out (whether it's a billboard, pamplets, TV commercials, etc.). If you have enough people bugging authorities about it, action will be necessary!

The problem with Safe Haven is they publicize it as being limited to 3 days, I don't think they should limit it to a specific age. In my hometown, they have a crisis nursery where parents who are overwhelmed can seek help, day or night. More cities and towns need that as well. I imagine we could see a decrease in maltreatment if people felt they had somewhere to turn.

I think the development and support of places like this would go a very long way. As well as providing proper sex education and birth control to bring the teen pregnancy rates back down, fewer young mothers in this position in the first place, fewer babies left to die in a trashcan.

That is so appalling. Even leaving the baby on a door step seems cruel, not knowing who will greet it or how, but that is deliberately an act to have no one find her. I agree that it is a matter of education. I dont judge the mother becuase who knows her story. Perhaps she herself has a mental handicap.

I know when i worked in an orphanage in Guatemala in 2006 we had babies coming in on a daily basis. And horrendous stories. Many children that had been abused to the point of retardation and severe physical disabilities. More than one newborn found with the cord still attached, babies dumped in toilets and in bins. Its so terrible to think about, and these are the success stories. These are the babies that WERE found that DO have a chance. It makes me cry to think of the overlooked.

Its true what joy said. We all need to use our voice to promote the education about choices. Even if we were to convince one mother to do the right thing, imagine what a gift that is to that that baby. Everybody, every living being deserves atleast a chance at survival.

I agree with joy also on getting the word out about the Safe Haven law.  I actually did not know.  I do believe they should get the word out to everyone any way possable.  You hear these stories WAY to often anymore.

It still hurts sometimes; but, I gave up being able to have a child 5 years ago due to health and age.  I would love to have one offered to me.  I don't get it.  I'm blessed and happy now with having my four legged fur baby's though.

I guess I'm alittle on the harsh side though because, I think they should also put out the word that "anyone that can just dump a baby like an old head of lettice" should also have to have their tubes tied.  GRRRRRRRR

i agree with all of you, its so frustrating being at the end of the pool, where you have to do everything imaginable, and at extended cost just to HOPE that you get pregnant since nothing is a guarantee and yet the other side where just looking at a child they get one and dont want it! its not fair, of course that is the way the world works and God works in mysterious ways, and we arent anyone to question it but it doesnt meant that we cant voice our opinions about it! ive never thought about taking it somewhere to try and get something done about it (commercials, billboards and so on) i know that im in communication with a lady right now that is going above people to try and help out some abused animals and nothing is being done about that, i would hope that they would take into consideration about unborn children! thank you all for opinions! hopefully, with the way the world  seems to be turning, if we all work together, the numbers of these problems can decrease!!

OMG thats so sad!! I just dont understand some peeps; like u said some of us on here (like me too) would do anything just to have that priceless gift in our arms and peeps like that just throw it away like a newspaper. i agree w/Me these people who do this should be forced to have their tubes tied its just not right!! i hope they find this woman too and lock her away for a long time.

by losthopeful08, May 28, 2008 10:27PM
i dont care what the hell the mother is going through, GOD chose you and gave you the most precious gift any one can have. it makes me cry to hear things like this, so many women want children and how on earth is anyone going to justify what she did by saying maybe she didnt know? or maybe she was scared? ppl saying things like that to murders makes me mad!! if you think you are old enough to have sex, than you should know the possibly of getting pregnant! why are ppl so STUPID!!!!! if you cant really tell this angers me so badly, no child deserves this! even if she was raped, she could have gotten help and that is PUBLIC! go to a hospital or parent. if the child was carried full term then she had time to go to a hospital. if she didnt want it she should have aborted it (i am against obortion dont get me wrong) or given it up! SORRY not trying to get anyone mad, but to me children come first and thats it. it is your responsibilty as a mother to protect your child. this is why ppl should wait until there married to have sex. the poor thing.....at least its in heaven!
