On Monday, August 3, my first born great-grandchild arrived. His name is Nicholas James. Born with a full head of red hair and big feet. This child is from my first born son's, first born daughter, Jennifer. Alot of "firsts."
Nicholas James was 8 pounds 4 ozs. and 21 inches long. He has big feet to match. I haven't had a chance to see him yet, as I live over a hundred miles away. Throughout the pregnancy, my granddaughter had wanted to give him up for an open adoption to a childless couple. She would not hold the baby after he was born. It broke my heart.
I sent her flowers in a porcelain cartoon figure of a rubber ducky, with a message, to "Please hold your son and just cuddle him and feel his warmth. You'll never regret it. I promise" The nurses say that she started crying when she read my note and asked for the nurses to bring her the baby. My granddaughter and I are very close. I stood by her throughout the pregnancy, no matter what her final decision was. Privately I prayed for her to have a change of heart.
So she held the baby for the first time and couldn't let him go. Those God-given motherly instincts finally kicked in. Thank you God for answered prayers. Thank you to those that knew of this pregnancy, that said prayers for my great-grandson.
Today is a good day....I'm truly blessed. So is Nicholas James. He's one lucky little boy to have a mother like, Jennifer Rose....
