I Thought It Was Gone Forever

Most of the time I wear contact lenses. I went for a eye doctor's appointment a couple of months ago and got a trial pair of lenses to get me through until I had the money to order new ones. My eye exam was $100 and to get my new contacts is another $100. Unfortunately I have not had the money to order new ones. I have been so worried that something is going to happen to this pair and tonight....it almost did.

I was taking my contacts out in the bathroom as I always do. Sure enough I dropped one and right down the drain it went. I freaked out. My husband was like "WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T RUN ANY WATER!" He took the drain apart and there was all this yucky water (no wonder my bathroom sink backed up all the time) and he got a strainer and guess what? He saved my contact! There wasn't a thing wrong with it! My hubby saved the day! I was so upset because I can't see well enough out of my glasses to wear them all the time and I don't have a back up pair of contacts. I guess you can call that luck.

My daughter wears the ones that are replaced every 2 weeks.  Last month when we went on vacation, halfway thru the vacation she told me she forgot to bring her glasses along ... I was more terrified than she was about the "what if's" if one got lost in the ocean or pool or sand in it, etc.  ugh.  We took separate cars down to the shore vacation and her license is stamped "glasses".  But all turned out A-OK just like you!

Glad you got your lense back and it was ok.

Sometimes the 2 weekers are damaged when she opens up the package and the Doc will give her a trial replacement.

I have to wear the toric lense for astigmatism. I wish I could wear normal ones. I pay $100 for 6 months worth, which I think is outrageous! But I stretch them out to at least a year, this last time I made them stretch for 2 years. I would have already gotten new ones, but I have had to put almost $300 into my car to get it fixed, have been spending $25 just about every other week for the doctor and there just hasn't been any time. My birthday is next month though and my dad usually gives us kids money for our birthdays, if he does then I think I am gonna use that towards my contacts. I really want a new graphics card for my computer, but ya know, sometimes you have to spend the money on stuff you need instead of stuff you want.

Yeah, I hear you on the needs vs. wants and I'd do the same thing -- get another lense for sure!  I, too, have bad astigmatism so understand exactly what you mean.  Have you checked the price @ Costco or a BJ's Wholesale Club if you have those near you and Walmart & Target, too .. you probably have but wanted to mention they have discounted prices around here.

I don't have a Costco or BJs Wholesale thing. I have a Wal-Mart, but never checked prices. My eye doctor is about the cheapest place I can get them. If I still had my insurance through work it wouldn't cost me a thing. But when I got married I switched to my husband's insurance. He has great medical coverage but no vision. Oh well, I probably won't be at my current job for a whole lot longer.

Astigmatism sucks. My doctor told me my eyes are "rare" cause one eye is like 3 times as bad as the other. He asked me if I ever got motion sickness or bad headaches. He said a lot of people with such severe prescription differences per eye have a lot of motion sickness problems. I guess I am lucky because I don't.
