you could have a female infection if you dont get it checked out it could turn into something worse you need to schedule an appointment with an OBGYN asap

I agree with manny, it could easily be an infection, specifically a yeast infection. I have heard that there can be a faint odor of onion with that type of infection. Do you have any discharge with this? I would see your doc about this, especially since this is new to you. I hope you get answers soon, Sunny :)

I too smell like onions down there often.I don't eat onions often because I avoid them, I don't exactly like to smell like them. I have also learned that i always smell like them and taste like them (my hubby told me). He says that it varries between very potent to not very potent, but it is always there. Another thing that makes me wonder about it is that my family is allergic to raw onions, we don't have a problem with them when they are cooked, but raw ones can do anything from migraines to hives. I have always gotten migranes from raw onions so I don't eat them, but now I found out that cooked ones make my vag smell and taste like them. I can't eat them at all, but it seems like onions or onioin powder is in EVERYTHING. I can't avoid it.
Also, as far as the comments on an infection, I have had a yeast infection before and this is not that! It is just an everyday odor, and yes I wash regularly. I even wash with Summers Eve vagina soap every time I shower (which is either every day or every other day).
Many comments have suggested eating more fruit, but I feel like my diet is pretty well rounded with fruits and veggies. And I never, never eat fast food and I also don't eat meat.

I am ready to just deal with it, but it is my hubby that has to be down there all the time.

i have a white discharge that smells like onions. and ive never smelt of onions or had a white discharge. i recently found out about 6 months ago that i have hpv. i wonder if i have a yeast infection or if this discharge and smell come from the Human Papillomavirus that i now have.

Hi Rhombus,

I have the same problem but it doesn´t smells, it tasted. Is it really semelling by you? What I know is, that it taste after something like onion only when I´m sexually aroused. Maybe it has something to do with pheromone. I don´t know if it´s possible to stop this, when I take maybe the pill. Maybe someone knows this phenomen? I would be really thankfull if somebody can give me more info about this or know a solution.

Regards,
Claudia

Ok so, everytime I eat onions, especially raw, I have to live with the same odor for days. Sometimes three!!! Think about your diet. You know how they say what a man eats determines how well his "you know" tastes? Same is true for women I am sure.  Like I said, I ONLY smell this way after eating onions. I can wash with regular soap OR Summer's Eve and nothing touches the hint of onion!!  Yes, this is embarassing and poses some issues when being intimate but, avoid onions at all costs is my motto! LOL...And to think that my date complained of my onion breath the other night! If only he knew what else would smell that way once my food digested! HAHAHA!

Yes I have found this being true.  Mostly i will have a smell after i cut up onions for a few days.  Its horrible but always clears up after the onion leaves my body.  I have gone to the doctor to see if anything was wrong and she said i was clear of any STD or yeast infection, oh well such is life.

I had the same problem yesterday and was scared to death. I cut 3 onions the day before the smell.  my skin had contact with them. The smell went away today. Consider that i used the shower to rinse the inside of my vagina and get rid of the possible remains of that horrible and disgusting smell. This had never happened to me before of course i think i had never cut onions before in my life. The comments posted didnt help, they terrified me. any way i have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to find out what really went on. i promisse to ask lots of questions and tell you what he said. I WONT CUT ONIONS AGAIN IN MY LIFE. but relax i guess some of us are more sensitive than others to these substances. i swear this sounds surreal but its trueeeee.

For me it was a hormone imbalance (although mine was strongest in my arm pits, but did notice it in my groin sometimes and it seemed as if my monthly flow had the odor occasionally).  I started using over the counter progesterone cream (comes in prescription strength as well).  According to the directions on the jar (I actually use less, about 1/2 reccomended).  For me the "onion B.O." went away almost immediately.  Talk to your doctor first to make sure it's OK for you.

I have had the onion smell 4 about a year now & can't get rid of it. I have been 2 about 4 different doc's & they have cleared me of STD's & yeast infections. I haven't had sex in a year bcuz of it cuz It is embarrassin.. I seem 2 notice it more when I'm horny or after I masterbate & also when I have been drinkin the night before..
Is there a full body cleanse I can do for my whole system?

I believe the onion smell is kind of like the smell u get when u sweat under your arms. If your vagina is sweating hence the oniony ( sp ) smell... I sometimes use deodorant but not sure how safe that may be.

Well I have had this problem for years on and off, I actually love onions..but I am not sure If that is what the cause is. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has this problem! I have not talked to my OBGYN about this mainly because I was embarrased too, lol. I am clear of any infections and I have not had a yeast infection in God knows how long so I know that is not the cause, I have my yearly pap soon..so I will definately talk to her(OBGTN) and maybe shed some light for some of you who have this issue. In response to the post about the deordant since it does smell like armpits I have used an unscented roll on down there, not sure if this is safe but it did appear to help ...

I went to my doctor and he told me it was because I ate onions. He explained that onions are soooo potent that they affect the smell of your sweat glands under your arms, vagina, skin, and so  on.  Furthermore, he advised to limit onion consumption when possible because it takes your body days to get rid of this smell.  I really don't eat onion, but I  made a dip for a bbq and that's when I started to notice the smell.  Both on my skin and vagina.  So just wait it off.  I can't stand it, but I'm enduring it too!  NO MORE DIPS FOR ME!

Hi friends. I think I have the answer some of you might be looking for. I'm an RN and am pretty familiar with women's health. It is true that different women can smell differently in their genital areas. However, strong "onion" or "fish" smells are indicative of Bacterial Vaginosis. It's a very common infection and any woman can get it, whether or not she's having sex... Here is a link to the CDC's fact sheet on BV. http://www.cdc.gov/std/bv/stdfact-bacterial-vaginosis.htm
hope this helps!

hello,
I have this onion problem as well.. now for me it just started 2 days ago..its not in my vagina but on the outside like around the vagina and in the groin area. I'm thinking its when i sweat. however, its strong because after washing its still there. In the last 2 days i have washed and washed but it hasnt gone away. i have also lost about 12 lbs and changed my diet a lot in the last month to do so. I have not ate any onions all week. this issue has just started out of the blue.. i am verry irritated and i dont know what else to do. i dont have any std's or anything like that..I keep up on my vag. health so nothing really gets past me there.  the only thing i can think of is maybe im lacking something in my diet now that my calorie intake is a lot less. maybe a hormone issue now or something...

OMG! I would just like to say thank GOD I'm not the only one!!! I was begaining to think that I was weird! I cut half an onion yesterday for stuffing and bam its back! I just have to touch the stupid things and my body smells like them for a week! I was kinda hoping to find a deoterint or something though. Its not a yeast infection had that checked. Dr said My body just reacts stronger then others with onions. he said to use mild no smell soap. didn't work for me. its not just "down there" that smells but i can help the other areas with deoterint. they need to invent something lol.

ladies...with having these smells, my mamma taught me a lil trick to get rid of it. while showering, after u have washed, with your hand or washcloth, use baking soda. sometimes you may want to "rinse and repeat" but the second time around will sure do the trick. baking soda is a great thing to have with these smelly problems.

I have the same problem :( I noticed it last week and I thought it had something to do with the fact I had been cutting onions days before (I don't even eat them often) but the smell still hasn't gone away, it seems to be my discharge that smells and I have noticed it has been thicker than normal and that the smell gets stronger when I'm aroused. My boyfriend hasn't noticed yet but I'm literally terrified of letting him near me incase he notices. I've booked an appointment with my nurse for next week so hopefully she can shed some light on what the actual problem is. But I have had a yeast infection before and the smell was nothing like this, hense why I'm beginning to worry!

ive had it for years its starts of an onion smell then goes fishey u can get anibiotics from your gp but it is a short term fix i find if i dont eat onions im ok but as soon as i eat anything with them in it comes back!!!!!!!! its bv they say its not an std but there is concerns that if you suffer from it it can increase your chances of getting hiv and other sexually tramsmitted infections and if you are pregnant can reduce the weight of your baby

Well most times women tend to smell like what they eat especially onions or garlic if aten they will smell like it..i have this problem i only get the smell when i touch or eat onions, & it normally lasts for 3 or 4 days then goes away until i come in contact with an onion again...It doesnt necessarily have to have something to do with an std or yeast infections either cause i get lots of yeast infections too, Just like the saying if you eat pineapple's it will make you taste sweet down there, well this is what the onion does now if you are experiencing the smell and you have discharge or you have not touched or aten an onion then you might want to see and obgyn!
thanks!!!

not only does down there smell like onions but my hands and my armpits too, [[sweat]] in general!  but it is from touching them because i dont always eat them i can just touch them and i wash my hands and the smell stays..some people are just affected by it more then others dont worry yourselves

I have found that the heavier I get, the more I sweat EVERYWHERE. but it seems to help a lot if I keep myself shaved down there and only wear cotton underwear...

I had the same problem w/ my vagina smelling like onions. I went to two doctors and both said that my test came back normal. No infections or diseases. The doctors said I probably just had a chemical imbalance in my system, which cld b the result of weight gain, diet, age and a few other things. The doctors recommended that I eat yogurt to help regulate my digestive system. Since I don't eat yogurt they said to take a probiotic pill called Acidophilus. IT WORKED! thank God! When I do not take it I do notice a
difference in my vaginal area the pills can be
purchased anywhere. Hope this helps!

It's not your vajayjay that is smelling like onions, its your sweat glands next to your vajayjay, how can I explain this, the top of your leg (groin area) and since it is so close you think your vaj smells like that... That is why "hubby" thinks he smells the oniony smell because it is so close..That is bad when you can't tell the difference... Vaj should not smell unless you have an infection, sure it can smell when you haven't taken a bath in days, but it should not smell bad normally...

I had an onion-vadge for years and years, looked all over the internet, and tried every solution I could find, and after such a long time, I discovered a number of solutions that worked. I have so many, that I posted them all in one place. Take a look:

Ok..im going to answer the question...the term you are what you eat comes in play...if you.eat onions..cut them or..use any mixed herbs..your vagina will smell like onions for a couple of days...its natural!!!..it has to make its way thru your body..like when you eat sweeter fruits..your vaginal smell will smell a tent of sweetness...now if you dont eat onions at all...you need to go to the obgyn..as you get older your body responses to foods differently...

I know that some of you are trying to help, but some of these answers, in my opinion, are way more scary than need be! Lol I've had 3 yeast infections in my sexually active and abstinent periods over my 26 years.. My first infection I didn't have any symptoms other than a slight itch and no smell and my doc diagnosed it during an exam.. Now the last 2 I had have been different and my cooter does smell like onions and pretty strong- a bit more than when I've just eaten some raw onions on something.. I know it's gross but when I wash in the shower or scratch a little down there, if I smell my hand after it smells of raw onions..gross I know but my hands get washed thoroughly! And I'm not smelling any gland or sweat- its a slight discharge and if I let it go a few days it turns cottage cheesy.. My best advice for a case similar to mine, is don't freak out about it more than likely its not as serious as a friggin' std!.. I've always had relief with the Monistat kit, use it at night, lay down in bed put it in and make sure u wear some undies with a panty shield for the next day and pray for some relief! Hope this helps!

It is normal!!! So glad to hear i am not alone here! I am 25, and every single time ive ever cut or handled onions my vaj smells just like onions i only notice when i get right out of the bath tub, (not shower) or when i go to the toilet. Ive had this prob with onions for as far back as i can remember, even as a young girl, its hard not to cut up onions being an active housewife to 5 ppl LOL anyways glad to know im not alone the smell does go away on its own i tried everything i could think of, summers eve and spray nothing for 2-4 days its all on its own our vaj has very sensitive glads and pores on the skin that are quite porous and capture the scent of the onion/garlic for several days. its normal, you are ok :D and you are not alone no need to rush to the doctor unless you have a type of discharge, pain, sensitivity or any other indication of infection or other type of vaj ailment

Hello, it is a normal occurrence especially for women with hormone imbalances. Really there aren't many ways to get rid of it, its a scent that sometimes comes with the hormones released. If you noticed it is worse before or after menstruation that is very common. If your partner or you have an issue with it, inform them it is actually normal and the best thing I can recommend is a flavored and scented lubricant. After talking to some they find that buying lube can sometimes make them feel that they are saying their sex life isn't good enough but truly it is completely normal and you can bet you aren't the only one that day to buy some in the same store. Spencers has a nice affordable selection of many flavors and scents, also the warming ones I have found seem to keep the scent and taste away for a bit. Also someone mentioned deodorant. this will not be bad for you though it isn't recommended for sexual activity. It is not the best thing for you to ingest. Many professional sex movie stars use deodorant on their feminine parts and those who shave there pubic hair use it to keep the red bumps away, this also works on irritated legs after shaving. I do recommend using the stick and not gells though.

I have this problem, so I wentto the doc and they told me I have bv. They gave me oral antibiotics but the white discharge had increased. So I went back and the doc gave me a metrogel which help with the white discharge, but I still have the onion smell. This problem has ruin my life,I'm only 23 I isolated my self from the world because of this embarrassing problem, I cry every single day. I tried everything thing you can think of; I tried home remedies, over the counter medicine, sprays, powder, feminine wash. and viginal inserts nothing worked. I have been trying the vitamins from the case of the onions website, so far I been taking;vitamin d,zinc, folic acid, vh essentials bv capsule, chlorophyll liquid and nothing has work. I brought some acidophilus and probiotics I'm praying that it will work,I'll keep everyone posted.
