why everything goes to religion

May 21, 2008 09:51AM - 12 comments

everytime i see a post on here that is a little controversal everyone always seems to bring god into it, i want to know why, he does not dictate what we do in ourlives and he certainly doesnt dictate how i feel, or waht i believe in i am me and will have my opinion and respect others with theirs. we all have the right to believe in something i just want to know why some christians try to always bring the bible into it or god or it always seems to be a sin, if everything is a sin then i have no hope. i don't like being told quotes from the bible, i don't want to hear it. you like the bible go for it read it but why try to push it on to others. i am not religious obviously but i do believe that there is a place we all go to when we die, but that is as far as my belief goes. i don't feel i need to believe in god to live my life as happy as i can be, i have great friends and family, my kids are well raised and have respect for all people. as long as i believe in my children i am happy. that is my belief. religion does not need to be brought into all controversial conversations. all is not a sin we make life choices, we are born a certain way.

sometimes when we cant find a reason for things happening or understand why things have happened and we feel helpless, we tend to search for something or someone who we think might be wiser than us that would know why these things occur. People tend to turn to religion to help them when things are overwhelming. I agree that people do use the name of the Lord for their own purposes. I am Catholic but I dont practice it like I should. As you can see by my pic, I elected to Christen my children as I was and I plan to give them to choice to follow it or not. But sometimes, just sometimes, we need something to believe in to help us get through the rough stuff. Sometimes a ray of hope is more powerful than any medical intervention. But that's my opinion as everyone else has.

i do understand that people do need something to believe in, but what i don't understand is why when you see things posted like the post about gay people, how so many people actually said god hates them so i do. i see this as not thinking for yourself, is this truly what you believe or is it what he does so you have to go along with it. everyone has there belief and there opinion and i respect all but what i want is to hear people opinions not god said its wrong or god sayd its a sin so its wrong. its in the bible as a sin so its wrong. what i want is to hear peoples opinions their own opinions, you know like I THINK ITS WRONG, OR I FEEL THAT ITS WRONG. i want to hear what people think not what god says.

When people believe in something and live by what they believe in, then the belief and the lifestyle plays a role in forming their opinions.
Since you believe solely in yourself and your family/children, then are your opinions of things not formed around how, why, and if it will affect you and your family?
I'm a Christian, so I believe in God and the Bible. As my personal beliefs and lifestyle are centered around Christianity, my opinions are influenced by my beliefs; therefore, not just how an issue will affect me or my family, but how does it balance or not balance with my belief in God. As a Christian, my life is centered around living in a way that I feel and hope pleases God, standing up to defend what I believe is His Word, and sharing what I believe if people ask and really want to know.
In a public forum with opinions of all kinds, I generally ignore the ones that could potentially offend/degrade me or that make no sense whatsoever to me. If I don't agree with someone, yet they still try to shove their beliefs or opinions down my throat, then I just ignore them altogether or leave the posting and start my own if I please.
But anyway, people's beliefs, whatever they may or may not be, shape how they think, feel, and live, and become part of who they are as a person. So I think that's why, whenever you seek opinions on a public forum, you'll get all kinds, including those that are influenced by some of the most fanatical beliefs and ways of thinking. It's your choice if you give them the attention they want.

You're just perpetuating the cycle be continually bringing it up.

Joy is right.

AJH84....I wish I could express myself the way you do......

While I agree continuing to bring it up perpetuates it, but I understand the frustration. I miss the days when MH was about non-secular support. Religion was not a topic for discussion. I couldn't even tell you what the religious preference was for the members was, we didn't care. We could have a debate or disagreement without that coming into the conversation.

While you may feel entitled to post your scriptures, those of us who do not like it are also entitled to post our disdain. Not everyone is buying what you are selling. I do not need to be "saved" by anyone. Neither do the other members here. When a person comes on here asking MEDICALLY based questions, they are not asking for a religious lecture.

And while we get it that it is part of your life, but sometimes we don't need all of you in your responses. Defecating is part of my day and I do not share it with the forum.

I really appreciate how AndiJ78 worded her reply.

I am neither religious or not religious. I have my beliefs, you have yours. I respect your beliefs and would appreciate that mine are respected as well. Because of my age, and not being married I have received a couple of lectures on here about how it is sin to have a child without being in a sacred union.  This is for medical advice not advice on how I should live my life, or who I need to please. If I wanted a religious lecture I would go to church.

Is the Bible quoting being done instead of original thinking, or does the quote frame thoughts that are already there?

by AndiJ78, May 30, 2008 10:14AM
Seems like the former, Swampy.

by shadowserpent, May 30, 2008 10:25AM
nice question swampy.
and i agree that its a tad ridiculous, that in posts having absolutley nothing to do with relegion, someoen makes sure to slam a great big heaping pile of it down our throats!
and this isnt me being anti religion at all, its me pointing out the obvious, and honestly, its people that force there beliefs on others that make teh rest of us look like fanataical buttheads!
