I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch. I also have a hernia in my stomach which causes me to have tons more acid then normal. Every three months I get very painful and violent episodes of vomiting sulfur and last week for the first time ever it was also bright yellow bile. My stomach is in extreme pain when I'm about to start getting sick. I'm just so sick and tired. I've been sober for months and I talked with my PCP and he suggested that I detox off asap from methadone. I brought up that maybe my gastroparesis is from the methadone. I'm only 26 yrs old, female, and I thought that after years of drug abuse, this was going to be the time I can finally change my life and be healthy, but it's worse than before! I can't even live!

I have the same exact issues it sounds like. I've been on methadone 10+ years. Bloating, pressure, can't get the pressure out of my stomach, full all of the time. Mine gets better after I dose, or it's tolerable anyway. Like you were saying, feel better around midday (about 11:00 am) I have an endoscopy this morning. I'm not looking forward to it after being lucid for a colonoscopy. Anxiety makes it worse if I feel I can't get the pressure out because I'm driving or in public. It's been going on for about 3 years.
It is torture to detox from methadone, I feel you on that. I want to come down, but don't want to feel like **** for months (depending on the taper) while I have to go to school and work. Gotta get ready for this endoscopy--likely to be a nightmare because I can't mention I'm on methadone -- my doc would cut off my benzos

That's not smart. Your doctors should all know your on methadone, if you ever want to get the right help. I've detoxed myself from 86mgs to 36mgs, starting July 2014. Hopefully I'll be off in 6/7 months. I have no choice because this **** so killing me slowly, literally. My health has been so bad, these past 5 years, since I started at the Methadone clinic, that I can't work, go to school, or do anything! I have no life or energy for life. I only go to doctor appointments because I have to and am on a million medications to go to the bathroom and to lower acidity in my body because I have too much and this is the biggest problem I have from Methadone. I can't eat anything because my GERD, acid reflux, hiatal hernia, gastritis, duodenitis is so bad. I have been living off broccoli, sweet potatoes, oatmeal w/ flax seed and almond milk, and ph balancing tea for the past year and a half. I recently met someone who's brother passed away, on Methadone, and was having the same problems as me. So I'm pretty sure Methadone lead to his death. If I was you, I'd start Detoxing slowly. I know it ain't easy, but it's either life or death... At least for me.

I can't wait til I can actually eat like a normal human being again and go to the bathroom normally! I just pray to God, daily, that my health goes back to normal once I am completely off Methadone!

Good luck.

I had all the same symptoms that you are describing and i ended up getting Leukemia. My drs say I have always had the gene in my system but the methadone triggered it. I found that zofran and simethicone works with the gas and nausea but I definitely would go see a Dr and have blood test done and please tell all your drs that your on methadone they can prescribe you meds to replace the benzos cause methadone and benzos don't mix they can cause a od and more. So please go get test done and tell your drs. Sorry I am on a 128mgs and been on going on 3yrs went from 35mgs when I started to 150mgs and then after a year at 150mgs I decided it was time to come down I made it to 128mgs and that's when I found out I had Leukemia. Ibwas on the methadone 8 months when I got tired of feeling like **** and went and got blood work done and they found the Leukemia. So please go get checked before its to late. I would have died in 3 weeks if I didn't catch it when I did.
