I have been trying to get to the bottom of my 5 year olds chronic cough, swollen lymph nodes and dark circles at times under her eyes. We have been from the doctor to an allergist, ENT specialist, and soon another CHKD lung specialist. We have had a CT sinus, chest x-ray, allergy tests, and asthma tests so far.  For some reason no one can tell us really anything that adds up. This has been ongoing since July 2007, I just want a answer. The ENT did find from the CT sinus she had sinusitis which was treated with antibiotics, singulair, and a nasal spray.  But also said for her to have such a severe case at 5 years old there is definatley something she has to be allergic to, which wouldn't agree with the allergist's results. This cough comes and goes but it is that cough that makes your head spin, I get these looks from other people like what is wrong with her and I am going to lose it soon. For some reason these doctors like to constantly say its "viral." What viral infection lasts a year????? I am over pumping her with medicine (antibiotics) that she doesn't need. I have gone every mile to get to the bottom of this and I still have NO answer. We had our house checked for molds or anything that could be causing any of this and they found nothing. I have changed everything from my cleaning sprays. sheets, pillows, detergents, water, you name it. We are in the process of selling our house just to knock maybe a possibility of this condition. Can anyone give me advice or lead me in a direction that could possibly help me out?

You should ask for complement testing. If her Ch50 is below 10 and her complement 2 is also low, she has hereditary complement 2 deficiency, which can cause allergies, and dyspnea (shortness of breath), lymphadenopathy, and increased susceptability to infection (sinusitus, etc). HC2D is often linked to a predispostion to develop SLE and other autoimmune states. C2 deficiency occurs in 1 in 10,000 people. If your allergist or your family doctor won't test her complements find someone who will. Common complement tests are Ch50, C1, C2, C3, C4, The testing is a blood test.
Read everything you can. Hope this helps.
