Blimey, things just get worse.

May 27, 2008 04:02PM - 22 comments

I just noticed on the Doctors forum mention of Aciclovir. I saw a bottle of that in my contact's bathroom cupboard. I thought it was mouthwash. It's for Herpes I presume.
The rash in the photo (day 63 one) in my profile has re-emerged today in the same place (looks like shingles) and a scaly rash on my feet. I spoke with someone at the HIV charity today, the senior worker wasn't in. Their interim relief  was in and they said they had to get tested to 6m, per GUM clinic recommendations for significant (i.e. actual) exposure.
So at least I'm not imagining things that the Health Protection Agency, Health Protection Scotland, CDC, Health Canada recommend testing to 6m for a definite exposure.

You are right in the 6 month things for proveed and repeated high risk exposures with someone hiv positive, but if the rash reappered today is more than 10 weeks after exposure and ARS never happened after 8 weeks and thats rare becouse they usually appear between 2-4 weeks, I was reading about herpes and yes Aciclovir is commonly used to control herpes outbreaks and prevent them, with all this info you probably got herpes, try to get some thoughts of a dermatologist on the rash.

Good luck

I wont worry a lot about it, just go to a dermatologist, rash are very common, they can even be fungus. Good luck

I'm in the UK, we don't just go to Dermatologist or whatever type of specialist we feel like haha. We need to get a referral which takes weeks, possibly months. They're next door to the GUM clinic dut I don't reckon the GUM clinic will fis up a referral.   I'll just work out the window period (it's not just for repeated exposure BTW) and get tested, just a few weeks.
Could be fungal, dunno.

I got news for you. Shingles does not come and go. Once you have a breakout they turn to blisters and are very painful and they itch like crazy.

Frank I have being in the UK, and when I was there I had and injury in a race so I just went into a Hospital and ask for a muscle therapist ( I dont remenber the english name in spanish is fisioterapeuta) and they call one, he look at my injury prescribe some antiinflamatories, and painrelivers, so if you want to see a dermatologist you can, but is up to you to try it,

In my photos tthere are two rashes. One that looks like shingles and one that doesn't. The rash I am referring to is the one that does. It isn't though, it's Tinea Corporis. I go an Rx of Ketconazole for it at my 63 day test, which would be useless for shingles. Got half way home looked at the prescription and it said only valid at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital pharmacy, D'Oh..
I'm not even 40, too young for shingles.

by Teak, May 27, 2008 07:12PM
Wrong, you are not to old for shingles. If you have had chickenpoxs you can get shingles. I seen people in their teens have shingles and it was not related to HIV or immunosupression. It's can be caused by stress and anxiety.

by Teak, May 27, 2008 07:13PM
It should have read to young.

Ahaaa. more likely the label of the Tshirt I was wearing this Sunday, the one I was wearing at a gig the weekend  before I got tested.

What the hell do they put a label on the side of a T shirt for?

Aye, you're saying about stress, it's likely. There's someone off work as his Dad died (again?), My boss by the sounds of it got Dxed with cancer today, his boss had a stroke which affected the part of his brain associated with memory so he hadn't actually put the orders in. I'm just an agency guy and the others are sloping of early and lying about doing overtime, giving me more work. The building was due to be handed over yesterday and it's well behind.
The medical people wh I put my trust and honesty into think I use prostitutes and noted it on my medical record, effectively calling me a liar., Adding that onto finding out my new partner is on the game an some so-called friends knew and instead of telling me made a snide thread on a forum I'm on, I'd say on balance, I'm pretty stressed.
Bring back the HIV anxieties of late December / early January.

frank sorry for putting this so blunt but you are a hypochrondriac, just the way you list all these things that are wrong in such detail i would also add you most likely suffer from ocd too. You are neg proven by all your hiv test, i think you should address the real problem at hand.

Hi Frank303,

I am sorry to hear about your rashes and problems.
Well I just lately was having floaters and only when I look at the blue sky plus teh otehr things like tingling (pins and needles), I am scared to go test for HIV and I won't. Anyway people tell me I don't have it coz I practised safe anal and oral doesn't count.

Anyway I agree with you that in UK you can't just go to a Physician unless it is an emergency not for tingling, leg weakness or floaters.

I am going for a CBC when I consult my doctor maybe vitamin deficiency (B12, calcium, zinc, vitamin D)...they can cause these problems.

Anyway take care and good luck

Magnesium is a common deficiency, particularly in those who may be skipping meals (due to stress) or a high alcohol intake.

Frank

what's next for you?

have all the symptoms gone and are you able to move on?

i seen the rash photos and I had pretty much the same?

by Frank303, May 30, 2008 02:57PM
That rash the other day didn't come to anything.
Now,  only have swollen lymph nodes around ears, groin, back of knees persist.

by rashesandstuff, May 30, 2008 03:09PM
that's good the symptoms are easing

are you all done with testing then?

by regularjoey, Jun 16, 2008 01:06PM
Why don't you get tested for Herpes-2 if that is what your partner has?  I think it makes more sense to take one test for Herpes than testing for the umpteenth time for HIV.

by Frank303, Jun 16, 2008 02:26PM
Pffft, they wouldn't test me as no active lesions and I've had nothing on my mouth or down there, nothing  whatsoever. I think if they do blood tests they tend to come out positive if the person has even had cold sores in the past?
I've been rather busy with work so I'll go the next time I'm in London

by Stupidbooy, Jun 16, 2008 02:40PM
Frank

people are probably worried about you as a lot of people on here say they have symptoms and we never know if they have but you cleary have from your photos

what is the latest as you haven't said for a while?

are you confirmed HIV and HEP neg?  if so congrats and i hope you canput it all behind you

by regularjoey, Jun 16, 2008 03:39PM
Well, I'm not suggesting that you need to get an HSV-2 test, but it definitely makes more sense than getting another HIV test, because you actually did get exposed to HSV-2 and some of your symptoms could be due to that.  A positive HSV-2 test could help you with the HIV anxiety, that's what I'm saying.

Regarding your other post - it is not right telling everyone that your partner was HIV-positive without any evidence to think so.  I agree that you should not trust what she says about her HIV status completely.  But still, your partner was of unknown HIV status - and most likely negative.  You did the right thing by getting a check-up, now it's time to move on.
