For the last few weeks I have been worsening everyday... Since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism I have been taking too much thyroid Hormone and I was then considered hyperthyroid. Before that I was put on Zoloft to control my  anxiety and dizziness... I have been taking a lower dose of thyroid hormone to hopefully get my levels in normal range. But I have been taking Zoloft with everything... Is this common for me to expereince anxiety and this weird lightheadedness all the time!!!  I am sick of it I feel like I am going to pass out in some stores and I just get this weird feeling everytime i get dizzy like the world is zooming in on me or something then i get the dizzy attack... I have never been an anxious person in my life but when I was diagnosed with this thyroid stuff the anxiety just kicked in like crazy... I Dont know whats going on so I was wondering if ANYONE out there ANYONE please give me a sign of hope that this is normal... I just dont feel like my self

Hey there...Sorry to hear what you are going through. Ok.. you had said that you are on too much meds right? Are you still on too much or has that been resolved? If not, that needs to be treated ASAP because you could be feeling that way with too much meds. I was on too high of a dose of Synthroid and having those exact symptoms. After decreasing.. it stopped. Also, do you take your Zoloft at the same time as your thyroid meds? If so, DONT!! You need to space your other meds and vitamins when taking your thyroid meds. They say at least 2 hours. If you take all together.. the thyroid meds dont absorb within the body as they should and this too can make you feel the way you do...When was the last time you had labs done?

Hi MK well I had labs done about 4 weeks ago and I am about to have them done here soon to see if I am still Hyperthyroid... They did decrease my meds from .125 to .88 mcg of levothyroxine... I have been on the .88 for about a month now and I still kind of feel the same lightheaded, not in my body, off balance kinda feeling... And I was never a anxious person untill this thyroid thing... sometimes i wonder if there is hope because I am so sick of this

Listen... unfortunately this is the name of the game right now until we get regulated. It is going to take some time to get that 125 dose out of your system. I was on the same amount and reduced to 88 as well!! It takes time.. I actually need more meds, upping thw dose so I feel all those symptoms lately. Hypo/Hyper.. same damn thing to me... same symptoms practically!!!

did you have the anxiety that comes with everything... because my doctor  put me on Zoloft to calm it down for me.. I wake up shaky I get these dizzy spells that come on and it just sucks... what were your main symptoms you remember... thank you so much for talk to me because I need someone to talk to

I'm right there with you two. I was hypo, then went hyper. MK knows my story too. I had such anxiety, and dizziness I thought I was crazy. My mom told me I talked a mile a minute on the phone to her... she was worried. Just to let you know SSRI's like Zoloft can lessen the effectiveness of your thyroid meds. Take it far apart like MK said.... I might suggest not taking it at all... TILL you get you thyroid under control. I hate the fact that some Dr.'s just pile on the pills just to cover the main problem. I sure hope you can get back and get tested SOON!!

anree thank you very much... it makes me honestly want to cry because of how I am feeling... so did it take awhile for you to start feeling better... I just think I am crazy because of this dizzyness and weird attacks of it... I am just so confused...

by MKlacza, May 30, 2008 07:55PM
I had anxiety!! Anxiety that led me to the ER!! I am getting use to it and one thing to remember and I know this is very very hard to do... when a attack comes, try to breathe, lay flat on your belly for awhile and dont feed into it. I do this and it passes. Hang in there EMT... I promise it will get better, but we have to go through the hell first in order for this to happen!! We are here always!! MK

MKlaCZA were you always an anxious person did you always have anxiety or did it all start with the Thyroid issues?

by anree, May 30, 2008 10:28PM
I had to quit taking the synthroid for a week, completely off it. To start feeling a little less crazy.  I wouldn't say I was an anxious person before hand. But a VERY depressed one, and paraniod. So when I went hyper I felt super nuts. I really thought I was needing to go to a loney bin!

My levels are still not normal, I am still hypo. I just upped my meds. 3 days ago... so I'm hoping to find relief from the tiredness I have all the time. But now I have some really strange headaches all the time. So I guess it's wait and see. The part I hate.

I thought once my Dr. dx me with thyroid I'd be 'fixed'. Instead it's been more of a battle than when I wasn't on meds, and no one knew what was wrong with me! I was just tired and depressed person!! LOL.

Maybe someday I'll be 'normal' HA NOT

by EMT9549, May 31, 2008 10:12AM
lol no one is normal anree... it just sucks because noone knows what normal feels like... So let me get this straight... you completely went cold turkey off of the synthroid and that made you feel a bit less anxious... and you were first diagnosed with hypothyroidism? isnt that  bad to go completely off of the synthroid...?

by anree, May 31, 2008 12:38PM
People have different opinions. I guess I just listened to my Dr. I know some say it wouldn't be good to do. I went off for just a week. I was on 75 mcg of Synthroid and went from hypo, to hyper. Went off the synthoid for a week, then started Armour thyroid 15 mg. The SMALLEST dose there is. So just a few days ago I added another 15 mg in the afternoon. Today I'm feeling a little more energetic. So I'm hoping it's starting to kick in. I just wish some of these weird headache would leave. Going off the synthroid definetly helped ALOT. Didn't feel so wacko after about 5 days.

by EMT9549, May 31, 2008 01:15PM
so the dizziness is it still there? because thats all I want to go away i dont care about anything else I just cant stand the lightheadedness it drives me nuts because I feel so off balance all the time and unsteady...

by anree, May 31, 2008 01:44PM
Oh no, the dizziness is gone now. I'm back to being tired and depressed! LOL The brain fog has lifted. That was a terrible time. I was messing up left and right at work! Couldn't form a single thought with out GREAT effort! I just have these weird headaches now. So I'm trying to get my levels straight.

by EMT9549, May 31, 2008 02:19PM
how long did it take you to get that brain fog away... and what helped were you on anxiety medications or did it just go away...

by anree, May 31, 2008 04:22PM
I wasn't on any anxiety meds. I went off Zoloft in Feb. and wasn't dx with thyroid issues till end of April. I took Zoloft for depression. The brain fog went away in about 5 days of stopping the synthroid. It seems to be that if I am hyper I have the brain fog very bad. Some people have it when they are hypo too. Did you have it before your dx 5 mos. ago? Or is this just something that came on with the overdose of meds.?

by EMT9549, May 31, 2008 04:55PM
Well I was never a anxious person before this whole thyroid thing... I was a little anxious when I was hypo and I was not DX but what is funny is when I was on the 6th day of synthroid I had this Panic attack, And I think it was because of the overdose of synthroid.... I had this weird brain fog and dizziniess I got from it... since then I am not the same and my levels are now hyper and I have this anxiety shakyness like no other... what is your oppinion?

by anree, May 31, 2008 05:42PM
I'd call and leave a message for your Dr. asking them if it would be alright to stop the synthroid for a few days, maybe 5-7. See if you start to feel better. Then start back on a lower dose. Only with your Dr.'s approval.
