blood clots on lung (not Pulmonary Embolism)

My father is on a breathing machine in ICU and doctors are trying to determine why he has blood clots on his lung tissue nothing like pulmonary embolism. He has Colitis and I've been trying to convince his doctors that this may be a cpntributor to his severe condition. If anyone can help, my family would be greatly appreciated!
