This all started in may of 1009 when I was at work coming home from a patients house. I was stopped to let the car in front of me turn left. The car behind my did not stop and hit me going about 50-60 mph. It did not seem like a bad accident but my van was totaled and so was her suv. I got a terrible headache almost immediately and took some ibuprofen which some what helped but not very well. I have never had a headache that didnt go away with 1 ibuprofen. I went to the ER since I was on duty so they could have everything on record. The said it was whiplash related headache and sent me home. My work required a drug test which came back negative and they let me come back to work.
For the next 4 weeks my head continued to hurt all the time. my right shoulder and neck hurt too with a pressure burn that I could barely describe. I had developed a terrible cough and lost my voice. The cough added to the headaches I would loose my focus and vision every time I coughed or sneezed or even went to the bathroom. If I would turn too fast it would also cause the same type of symptom. I now was having numbness and tingleing in my hands and feet which never went away.
I had been seeing my regular PCP which he sent me for xrays and a ctscan and felt I was ok to continue working. He did not feel the vision was a problem and the cough would go away and stop causing the problem. (he never mentioned the vision problems in his notes.)
the CT scan showed a chiari malformation. He (pcp) sent me to have an MRI. My medical director at work told me I can not drive as long as I am having the vision problems. She sent me home and made me go get a work excuse from my PCP. he was very angry as he did not feel I needed to be off and only wrote the excuse for 3 days until the MRI was done. He also recorded this as "per Dr. Harper" So since she has never been my doc she can't write anything.
the MRI showed a 4mm herniation which was declared in normal limits. My OCO wrote me back to work and referred me to a NL. Work would not take me back saying I couldnt work as long as I still had this. the medical director called the NL and he said I shouldnt be driving.
when I get to the NL he doesnt feel there is anything wrong with me. offered to run what he called "useless" tests that would come back negative. He said he can tell me a lot of things this is not but he has no nurelogical basis for why I am feeling like this. Which by now everything has doubled in severity.
The NL referred me to a NS just to get me out of his office he wrote me off indefinitely until the vision problems resolve. I can't go back and he doesnt think I need to be off yet he doesnt think I should drive. very confusing. I sent my first MRI into WICC and to Dr. Hefferz and he replied back that this isn't chiari and wanted a s cpine MRI to see if it is anything else related.
To this point I have been told alot of things this is not but no possibility as to what it is and no treatments. How does anyone expect me to be better when I have not been given anything to make it better.
I then go to a NS and he tells me this is a Chiari but it is so minor and it is not causing my symptoms. He does agree to a c spine MRI per my request. and he sends me on my way nicely saying this was a waste of his time.
so I go to a chiropractor. and things just keep getting worse. My husband thinks I am crazy that I am acting like this in response to whiplash. He doesnt think I have a chiari and there is no reason the Chiropractor would make it worse. He thinks I am over exaggerating everything and that I just need to go with the flow and get better.
I am in more pain after the Chiropractor. There is now something going on with my heart and I feel I am going to stroke out by how high my heart rate and BP are when the pain is up. If I dont get control of this soon I am going to have serious side effects.
Workers comp is giving me huge problems since my PCP didn't think I should have been off and Dr. Harper can't approve things and my NL can't give a medical reason to have me off and they do not honor the chiropractors advice to have me not driving. 4 docs saying a can't drive there for can't work none of them willing to release me back to work yet none of them willing to tell workers comp I cant work. OMG this is never ending torture.
severe problems and no money and a lot of docs with no answers and I am no where close to getting better unless someone will admit what is wrong and do something to fix it. i do not feel the Chiropractor is the answer but at least he is willing to sign forms and get me covered from this point on. It is my only hope. If this doesnt work soon I am going to have even more serious problems to face.
