My 26 hr hospital stay

Nov 07, 2009 05:20PM - 7 comments

I checked into the hospital on Friday morning around 10am. Was late because I figured it was no rush to get to the hospital. Anyways got there and within an hour or two I had the citadel (msp) to start the process. The nurses were really really nice and helpful. The room was kinda depressing because there was no window and baby things around. I had them take the warmer out until the baby was born. The contractions started around 4pm and they were every 4 minutes or so, then it would go to every 10 minutes or so. After my second dose of meds the contractions really started to kick in. I didnt know I was having contractions because its been 4 yrs since my daughter was born and I never went into labor, my water just broke.  Also the monitoring machine wasnt picking up the contractions. Around 6 I decided to get the epidural after the other pain meds were really helping. The pain wasnt as bad as i suspected but it was very uncomfortable.  An hour later I noticed the meds werent working and i felt the contractions. Then around 8pm they gave me some other pain meds and upped the epuidural meds. At 10 I got my last dose of citadel and was told the head was right there and thats why I was feeling pressure and the contractions were really steady. Then around 1125 I woke up and felt like something was coming out. I woke my husband up and called the nurse. The nurse came in a checked and again said the baby was coming out. She called the doctor and they rushed in.  While they were prepping the baby was coming out on its own. The doctor turned around and just said push and the baby came out. Our handsome baby BOY Matthew Jacob was born at 11:37pm. It was bittersweet moment because we really wanted a boy. The baby's heart was still beating and I got to hold him right away. My husband didnt want to hold him at first, he's afraid of holding little babies.  We got pictures and a little outfit from the hospital.

Today they brought the baby back into the room and we had a little service for him. My cousin is a minister and he prayed and read two scriptures, one from the Matthew. After the service we were released. So I'm at home now resting. Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers!

Thanks! This is the hardest thing I have ever had to experience. I would think it gets easier everyday but it seems the opposite.
