My son is serving 30 days in jail and they  choose not to give him Loritab, Kolonipin, Neurontin, or even Motrin 800mg. They are going to give him nothing. We know he is addictted to these drugs afte 5 years. The Kolonopin they switched from Xanax and Valium, the Loritab they have alternated with the Oxycontin, the muscle relaxer and sleeping pill we did not even try for. As a prison nurse, we would have been charged with "depraved indifference or cruel & unusual treatment,"  but the county jail makes up the rules as they go along. What can he expect in withdrawal symptoms? He has 6 herniated discs, a blown vertabrae in his lower back, and Arthritis in his neck.

From what I've read, that's going to be tough for him.  I'm titrating off Klonopin and am also on Neurontin, but to cold turkey.....I'd get a lawyer or something, push 'em hard.  Good luck!

Teddannon is correct about pursuing legal options. But from a withdrawl persepective, yes, it will be not only very difficult for your son but he could even succumb. Sorry, not trying to alarm you. But after 5 years on opiates and benzos of any type, withdrawl is inevitable. Actually I can't think of many things more torturous than just stopping those drugs after his length of use. Opiate addiction typically begins after olny a week or 2 of use. The opiate withdrawl symptoms would not kill him, but are excruciating. You must gradually taper off these in very small increments too. Most opiate receptors lie in the digetive tract..and that is right where it starts..the torture. That's onlt the beginning of a long torture. The benzos draw down COULD kill through say, a grand mal seizure. I feel sorry for your son. Try very hard to get help for him FAST!
