Ultrasound Results

Dec 03, 2009 - 18 comments

Ok, I just plain f****ng give up. Sorry for those of you that might read and be offended by that word, but it has been 2 years of just wanting answers, actually my best friend reminded me that it has been almost 3 years. and still no answers. Gyn office called today, ultrasound results "unremarkable".  Now, definitely doesn't think insurance will cover the hysterectomy and this lady was almost downright rude, implying that I am over reacting because how could I have all these issues if my ultrasound is normal.
I am alternating between screaming and crying and poor Jerry does not know what to do. As I sit here typing, bloated out to there, but hungry!!
The staffer asked me did I want to schedule anyway and see if the insurance would pay. I said of course!!! Give me a date. But then found out I have to have cardiac clearance before I can get even a date for the surgery. So, have to go to cardiac doctor, which could be for nothing.
As upset as I am, please keep praying if you will that this will get approved. I feel it is my only answer.
I love you all and pray daily for each of you and I know this is not what you are dealing with, that your's is far worse, I know that and I thank you for your friendship and support!!

Colleen, I simply CANNOT BELIEVE THIS !!!!! This has gone on waaay too long ..And, of course the Insurance Company will be very reluctant now.. Just sitting here wondering what on earth the solution could be and unfortunately not being of much help .. I guess I just wanted you to know that I feel just terrible for you.. Now, I know Gyn/Oncologists are really hard to see at least down my way. They really like to only see those that have a high suspicion of cancer (and I sure don't think you have that) But, I'm just wondering if you couldn't manage to get in to see one just for the expertise if nothing else..Another opinion might help.. but as I write that ,it sounds ridiculous because how many opinions have you had now???? How frustrating for you !! Wish I could help, but I CAN be f****ng p**sed with you !! Let us know if the approval comes through !

with much support,
Sandy

A quick post to let you know you are not alone, Colleen.  In  the sense of being rebuffed or stonewalled by docs.
I've just gotten over treatment for anal cancel, and can really really relate.  I've had about the same number of blow offs as you have I believe.
Wish I had an answer.  Will offer prayers and my love that something changes soon.

Ohh Colleen, you must be so disappointed. Who the hell gives these people the right to muck around with OUR HEALTH. I know for a fact, that you get to a certain point with your health, when you know something is definately not right. As far as I'm concerned, US don't show much, heck I had one 2 days before surgery that showed no change, yet once surgery commenced it was a complete different story. Had I listened to Drs, and tried to wait til January, I'm sure the consequences would have been disasterous, and I'm also sure they wouldn't have been saying then about all the complications they found. Try not to give up hope, it is all we have sometimes. Stay tough and battle on, thinking of you,
Maurita

I will keep you in my prayers Colleen, and hope they will go ahead with the procedure..these docs have ways of going around things, and do it all the time. Just today the hospital called because the oncologist ordered 3 scans one of pelvis, abdomen , along with the lung. She called to inform me that my insurance would not cover  a lung scan with a diag. of ovarian cancer..told her she needs to speak directly with the doctor..woman got all annoyed and said she was just going to allow the 2 scans..I told her to just cancel is tests then, because I was not going to drink all the crap just to have to redo the lung another time. (she finally backed down and called the doc, and was quickly told to add "a cough" to the test paperwork, and now it is covered..crazy!
Keep pushing with this doctor to find a reason for doing if nothing else then exploritory surgery, nothing less will ever ease your mind. You know my situation, and I was actually going to pay for the hysterectomy, until they found the cancer and poof no charge.
best wishes for some peace of mind for you love
take care

Thanks everyone. You all are so supportive, I just love you. I know I can come on here when I am upset and vent and you all get it. My poor husband is just so worried and he doesn't know how to deal with all this.He just wants me better. I will have the cardiac clearance and then will talk to my doctor.  The woman who keeps calling me just handles the insurance and so I need to talk to my doctor and make sure she puts down all my issues and maybe even should put suspicion of ovarian cancer. I do know it wouldn't be a problem apparently, with other insurance carriers, just mine is more particular.

Tc, that is just nuts in your case! Good grief. A lung scan is routine in all cancer checks, from what I have been told. I am glad you are getting all three, please let me know how it goes, ok? I will be thinking of you drinking that crappy stuff but hopefully, getting some answers and good ones!!

Love to all of you,
Colleen

Hi Colleen,
I think I would ask the doctor to call you directly about the results.  And...as you know to do...request a copy AND films of the ultrasound.

All this just stinks.  You and I started this together and I am feeling very fortunate that my doctor acted (relatively) quickly.  You deserve the same.

Hugs,
L

My oncologist ordered what you need...the three CT scans.  Honestly I think it is standard procedure....But as we know Insurance companies may disagree.  Here is what it is. They (docs) want to be sure that nearby organs are ok.  That was the case with me, anyway. I used to get so mad, I just wanted to scream at the way I was handled.
In my case after the CT scans and 2 months before a follow-up colonoscopy,  silence!  No one called to give results.  Sis thought this highly unusual.  I didn't get anything until (after many many calls to office) I just got in my car and went to hospital for a copy of results.
It is tiring dear heart....but move ahead one step at a time.
Think we can wear ourselves out comparing what seems to be poor care with what others are receiving.
I'm 74 and on Medicare...a real trip at times. Sis and her husband seem to be getting gold standard care @ no cost for all sorts of issues.  I've had cancer and can barely get doc to follow up in timely fashion....lol!  Laughing is my strength.
Love love love...

oh colleen i feel for your situation. keep pressing the drs and the insurance company. in the long run it will cost them more. don't they see this, let alone what it is doing to you. my insurance wouldn't cover a second mri of my hip either. i'm stuck paying for it. I'm due for a ct scan on the 15 and my dr had to go to bat for me, cause insurance wasn't going to pay for it. I'm hoping they will back down. just keep making enough noise and they will have to listen eventually. Wish you could come up north, most of the drs are pretty good, insurance companies however, i have afew choice words for. lol

Thanks Lori, I will do that. It has been 2 years since I first came to this forum!
Ann, you say all the right things, it truly is like that out there. No excuse for what you went through though and I am very sorry about that. I hope you are doing well today!!
Helen, I am sorry you are paying for the second MRI, there truly is no excuse for what the insurance companies do to us. I miss my old insurance in some ways, it was a discount insurance so you might pay a little more but you could go to any doctor you wanted and have any amount of tests done, no questions.
I will stay on top of this believe me and thanks!

Ah Sweetie, sorry I've been away and just saw this.  Glad you are moving forward regardless and hopefully doctor can 'doctor' the paperwork for the paper pushers.  I can't imagine an insurance company dictating my health.  Here, if the doctor says you need it you get it.  Keep pushing.  You are getting somewhere and will have your answers soon.

Still praying and hugging, Trudie

Hi Colleen,
I don't know how I missed your journal entry. My days have been hectic and perhaps the note in the side bar scrolled past before I could catch it.

It's OK about the language. I've heard that word before so it doesn't shock me. :-)  What does shock me is the coldness of the insurance staff and medical staff. Do they think you're pretending with all the bloat? Sure, just what every woman wants to have - a big, bloated tummy sticking out there.

I'd go ahead with the surgery if you can. It seems only then will they get a good look at what's going on inside. And I wonder - if they find a problem during surgery, will the insurance company pay for it after the fact? Just because the scans don't pick up a huge tumor or something scary doesn't mean things are perfectly normal in there. That's a question you could ask. Your doctor could throw your innards on the table at the insurance office and say, "See! She did have a problem after all. Now pay up!"  I'd love to see that.

Yep, you'll have to go through all the cardiac testing. I was diagnosed with the cyst in Nov. and didn't have surgery till Feb. During that time my cyst grew another 3 cm. But I had to see the cardio, wear an event monitor for a month, go through a stress test and then start on the heart meds. Had to take them for at least 2 weeks before they'd do the surgery. They wanted my heart to be as stable as possible.

Hang in there. It will all pull together. You've lasted this long. You can do a few more weeks.

Hugs,   irene

Trudie,
The insurance companies are definitely in charge here!! Some are better than others but there are the exceptions, which apparently is mine. We will see....

Irene,
I definitely want to go ahead with the surgery if I can get it approved. W/O insurance, we couldn't afford to do it, but we will keep praying they will approve it.  Wouldn't you love to see that??? The innards all over the table, more people should actually do that, these big insurance companies need it. Trust me, the bigwigs wives are getting whatever they need done!!
I go to the cardiac doctor today. I will let you know what they say. I am already on heart meds. What kind did they put you on for the surgery?? It sounds like you went through alot before your surgery. Is that routine?
I can hang in there, what is another month after all this time? You are so right!

Hugs,
Colleen

Colleen,

You need me to come and kick some @ss!  I will! In a heartbeat!  I say get the surgery.  I'll say a rosary that the insurance company will approve.  Tomorrow is a holy day of obligation for Catholics (Immaculate Conception).  I will ask our Mother Mary to watch over you and protect your from evil insurance companies and light a candle for you.  Hang in there! Love Lisa

To Trackermom,
Yes, I have had so many gastro tests, 2 colonoscopies, small bowel follow-through, gastric emptying study, 2 endoscopies, Sitz marker tests, bacterial overgrowth test and medications.  But thank you for asking because you never know. My gastro doctors have about given up.
